| To put together a winning team on
the ice, Head Coach Greg Ireland blends a mix of veterans
and up and coming youngsters. These young players are
counted upon to provide energy and enthusiasm as they
begin their professional careers. One of those players is
Bombers Defenseman Julian Dal Cin. Dal Cin was the first non-veteran signed by the Bombers in the off-season. A native of Brampton, Ontario, the 5'10'' 187 pound blue liner is a graduate of York University in Ontario with a degree in kineseotherapy. While in college, Dal Cin impressed Coach Ireland with his toughness and ability. "Jules is a smart, defensive defenseman who understands the game well. He comes to play on every shift and has a high intensity level. His best asset is that he wants to win all the time...he hates to lose," said Ireland. Growing up in Canada, hockey was definitely a part of Dal Cin's lifestyle though he didn't start playing until he was 7 years old. "I was watching the Islanders-Flyers game on television when Nidstrom scored that famous goal and after that I was hooked. I knew I wanted to play," remembered Dal Cin. So when he got older, he enrolled at York University with an academic scholarship rather than athletic. "In Canada, they don't give out athletic scholarships so I had to work hard to get an academic one. It was very important to me to get a good education," remarked Dal Cin. It was in college that Dal Cin had one of the best experiences of his young life. "It was my second year in school and our team started the first half of the season at 4-7-1. Then our starting goalie went down with an injury and we thought we were sunk. We knew we had a challenge and then the back-up goalie came in and went 7-1 and we made it to Nationals. We celebrated every win like it was the Stanley Cup because the goalie was so shaky and we fought so hard for every win," remembered Dal Cin. This fighting spirit has helped Dal Cin gain some fans in the Dayton community and in turn, he has become their fan. "Dayton fans are really crazy and really loud. They make the place sound like it has 10,000 people every night. They are also very friendly people and this area is a nice, safe place to live," said Dal Cin. In his spare time, Dal Cin enjoys playing golf and spending time with friends and family. His favorite vacation spot is Cancun, Mexico, his favorite book is Heart of Darkness by Conrad Black and his favorite movies are "Scarface" and "There's Something About Mary". After hockey, Dal Cin would like to go back to school and become a chiropractor. Thank you, authors of the Bombers' Flight Logs, for providing varied and accurate information in each publication. |
