Magnus Gustafsson

MAGNUS GUSTAFSSON

Magnus Gustafsson joined the professional circuit in the mid-80s and has made a quite impressive impact in the ATP Tour. He made it in the top ten but injury striked him on and off which caused him his rankings to go up and down as well. In 1996, he broke in the top fifteen which has made him a very dangerous player but he got injured again and has now slipped to the top thirty. He is currently the oldest player (at 30 yrs. old) in the tour to win a title in 1997 Heineken Open in Sinapore.
1998 saw him lift Sweden to the Davis Cup title when most of Sweden star players injured and when Bjorkman decided to play in doubles only. Gustafsson is one of Sweden's top clay court players. This year saw his ranking go up by six places. Also, he was the highest ranked player at 31 who played in the Davis Cup finals in single matches.
