Magnus Larsson

MAGNUS LARSSON

Magnus Larsson has had quite an impressive performance in 1994-5 but injury striked him and after recovering from his injury, his ranking went down to the 50s but this year, he is slowly climbing his way up to the top once again. He is one of the few Swedes who has had a consistent performance in both clay and hard courts. He is also good at doubles matches and is the mostly likely replacement when one of Sweden's famous doubles partners of Jonas Bjorkman and Niklaus Kulti is injured. He also reached the semifinals of the 1997 US Open but bowed out to eventual champion, Patrick Rafter. He also helped Sweden win the 1997 Davis Cup title over the United States. He won both his singles matches.
1998 wasn't a good year for Larsson except when he reached the semi-finals (or quarterfinals.. sorry, can't remember) of the US Open when he lost to Carlos Moya. He also didn't play in the finals of Davis Cup which Sweden won. If it wasn't for his wrist injury, he would have been chosen to play since he's a good player in clay courts.
