Marichal throws two no-hitters (almost three) in 1970 TCBA Yesterday Season

Juan Marichal entered TCBA Yesterday history books with two no-hitters in one season. Johnny VanderMeer tossed back to back no hitters for the major league Reds, but the two no-no's for Marichal was the first for TCBA and Waukesha.

Juan Marichal tossed the last (first) ever no-hitter in Waukesha Freemen history vs the Gettysburg Lightning.

Marichal faced three over the minimum, allowing 2 walks and having one base runner reach on a Freemen error by Ellie Hendricks. Marichal's record rose to 6-1 for the season.

Turnabout is Fair Play

Roger Nelson, the #4 starter of the Wilderness Wraiths concentrated his brilliance on his start in home series #15 against the Waukesha Freemen. Knowing he wouldn't get many runs of support facing Juan Marichal, he responded by pitching the first no-hitter in Wilderness history. He walked only 3 batters and seemed to be in control all the way. His performance capped 21 consecutive innings of shutout ball pitched by the Wraiths over the Freemen. Marichal was touched for 3 runs, 2 coming on homers by Bob Johnson and Paul Blair.
The Freemen won the game, game 3 in the series, 3-0. All three Freemen runs came in the first off Boswell on a 2 run homer by Frank Howard (12) and a single by Len Gabrielson.

Juan Marichal pitched the second no hitter of the season in game 2 of the series with the Fortney Gators.

Marichal faced 4 over the minimum, on 4 walks. Only one Gator runner made it to second, when Marichal issued back-to-back walks to Reggie Jackson and Horton with 2 out in the 6th inning.

Marichal was supported with the 25th homer by Frank Howard, an RBI single by Rod Carew and a homer by Ellie Hendricks off Bill Singer.

The no-no moved Marichal's record to 16-6. Marichal has been dominant throughout the 1970 TCBA-Y season. Juan's ERA hovers below 2.00 at 1.87 with 21 quality starts in 26 attempts.

Then Marichal, the first TCBA pitcher to toss 2 no hitters in a season, came home from Kilkenny one hit short of a third, as he won his start on the road vs. the Gaelics allowing a sole hit to Dick McAuliffe.

Marichal is now 17-7, has one start from November to be reported and has six projected starts in the close Gorney divisional race.
