Vida Blue strikes out 18 Pilots
In TCBA Yesterday's
replay of the 1972 season, the Gettysburg Lightning's Vida Blue struck
out 18 batters in a game. The Pilot lineup which suffered this embarrassment
featured mostly hitters who were hard to strike out, like Cookie Rojas,
Ted Uhlaender and Ed Brinkman. Every Pilot starter struck out at least
once, Gallagher and Dietz three times each. Blue coasted along without
much worry about the score, having been staked to three runs in the first
on a Joe Pepitone triple and a Rico Petrocelli home run.
