1997 TCBA Today Rookie Draft
Our rookie draft was held by live in-person auction on February 7, 1997 at our annual meeting,
held at the Willow Valley Resort, Lancaster, PA. Absent members participated by speakerphone or by mail bidding. The highest bid
in the draft was made for the second year in a row by the Newark Eagles, this time on Derek Jeter of the New York Yankees. High bidder Jim Lafargue
was heard praying that this year's top pick would hit better than the .218 produced by last year's top rookie, Charles Johnson.
The successful team and high bid for each player is shown, in thousands
of dollars as detailed in the TCBA Constitution
(Rules 430-460). As a point of reference, a team's average annual allocation
of TCBA money is about $120,000.
