TEAMTALK

  Lundin last action hero
Paul Lundin saved one and scored the winner in a penalty shoot out to give Oxford a win in their
AWS clash against Wycombe Wanderers tonight.
In an action packed first half at the Manor Ground the game turned on a sixpence in 45 minutes,
Oxford took the lead and looked comfortable early on before Wycombe took the upper hand in the
  lead up to the break.
The home side took the lead on 21 minutes after putting Wanderers under pressure when an
attack proved too much for the visitor's defence to handle.
Tait burst through before Bulman was forced to impede the run and when the referee pointed to
the spot, Paul Powell was able to continue his fine scoring record with the penalty past Taylor.
The Manor Ground outfit were running the show before they were reduced to ten men for a
professional foul, Peter Fear received his marching orders when Andrew Baird broke clear and
he pulled him back and Wycombe had the ball in the back of the net from the ensuing free kick
although it was adjudged to be offside and didn't stand.
With the home side depleted, Wycombe surged forward in search of a quick equaliser and with 5
minutes left before the break, they found the back of the net.
Both Simpson and Bulman combined before delivering a cross to former Oxford youngster
Jermaine McSporran who duly poked the ball home to make it 1-1 going into half time.
Despite the free scoring and open first half though, neither side were able to find the back of the
net from that point on, even in extra time.
After a full further 45 minutes of normal time action, and then an extra 30 minutes when one goal
would have won the tie outright as a 'golden goal,' neither team could break the deadlock and the
clash was forced to go to a penalty shoot out.
Oxford started the proceedings through Beauchamp but it was all square after two penalties
before Lundin made the breakthrough by saving Baird's effort.
That made it 3-2 to the Manor Ground outfit but after another couple of spot-kicks, the best was yet
to come as Lundin then removed his gloves before lining himself up in front of Taylor in the
opposition's net, and lashing home the winner past his opposite number to give Oxford the win by
  five goals to three.
Thanks to the keeper's heroics, Oxford were able to forget the misery of their FA Cup defeat by
Forest at the weekend and now can plan for the next round of the Auto Windscreens Shield.

      WYCOMBE WANDERERS OFFICIAL SITE
There was a disappointing end to the AutoWindscreens game at The Manor
Ground for Wycombe when Andy Baird saw his penalty saved by United
'keeper Paul Lundin during a penalty shoot-out. It was Lundin who then
stepped up to place home the winning penalty and end Wycombe's interest in
             the competition.
The game had ended 1-1 after 90 minutes and extra-time but Wycombe
couldn't find the decisive winning goal despite playing against ten-men after
Peter Fear had been sent-off for a 'professional' foul on Andy Baird in the
32nd minute. United had taken the lead in the 20th minute when Dannie
Bulman was adjudged to have fouled Paul Tait and Paul Powell stepped to
blast the penalty high to Martin Taylor's left. Fear's red card was a simple
decision for referee Brandwood and from the resulting free-kick Paul McCarthy
turned the loose ball into the net but it was ruled out for offside. Wycombe
equalised five minutes before the break when Bulman threaded the ball
across to Jermaine McSporran who casually stroked the ball home from 20
yards. Both sides had chances to win the tie before the penalty shoot-out -
McSporran, Senda, Brady and Thompson all being denied by Lundin, while
Martin Taylor foiled Cook and Anthrobus before Vinnicombe headed off the
             line during extra-time.
