The midfielder is currently playing on non-contract terms, but he was
the liveliest player on view and Shotton
said: "I'll be speaking to my chairman to try and sort out a better
deal for him."
Lambert said: "I'm trying to prove myself all over again. I was very
disappointed with the way I was treated
at Reading. "I'm quite bitter about it in fact, but you've got to move
on."
And he admitted: "I probably missed the best chance of the game.
Stalemate at Manor Ground
Oxford tried valiantly but they couldn't break the deadlock
as they drew 0-0 with Wycombe
Wanderers at the Manor Ground.
To compound the misery Oxford lost defender Phil Whelan in the
first half with a recurrence of the
hamstring injury he sustained last Monday at Blackpool.
Oxford had several chances, but they just couldn't force the
ball home and the home fans were
left frustrated at the end.
Paul Powell came close with a long-range effort in the first
half, then Matt Murphy almost got on
the end of a Joey Beauchamp free kick.
Wycombe caused a few problems on the break, but the Oxford defence
managed to hold firm and
keep them out.
In the second period Murphy blasted over when well placed, and
Derek Lilley almost grabbed his
first goal for the club.
Jamie Lambert then had a shot well saved, and Lilley had another
effort that was just denied.
Oxford had a great chance to nick it at the death but, after
good work from Murphy, Beauchamp's
powerful shot was very well saved.
So Matt Murphy remains the only Oxford player to have scored
in a home match this season -
something which manager Malcolm Shotton will be far from happy
about.
