Taylor-made
Gillingham boss Peter Taylor was delighted with his side's
first away win
of the season against a dismal Oxford.
A 52nd-minute penalty from Nicky Southall and an injury time
solo effort
from Manny Omoyinmi saw the Gills collect the first win on their
travels, with
Jamie Cook's late strike a mere consolation for United.
Taylor said: "I was unhappy at half-time because I thought we
should have
scored, but I am obviously very pleased to get this first away
win."
United crash
Another hugely disappointing home display resulted in United
crashing to a 2-1 defeat against
Gillingham this afternoon.
In a disappointing first half chances were few and far between,
and if anything, Gillingham had
the better opportunities to take the lead.
On 15 minutes a slip by Mark Watson allowed Omoyimini, who's
on loan from West Ham, to
break, but Lundin came to the rescue for United when saving
the striker's shot with his legs.
The visitors could have taken the lead moments later but somehow
Hessenthaler's shot hit the
post ran across the goal-line and out for a goal-kick.
Oxford's best chances fell to Tait who's shot was saved by Bartram,
and Beauchamp who fired a
free kick over the bar from 25 yards just before the break.
Gillingham took the lead on 52 minutes when Southall scored
from the penalty spot after Lambert
fouled Paterson in the box.
United hit back when Lambert put Murphy in but his curling shot
was well saved by Bartram.
The visitors could have increased their lead when former Oxford
man Thompson forced a fine
save from Lundin with a low 25 yard drive.
Gillingham increased their lead on 90 minutes through Omoyimini
before Jamie Cook grabbed an
injury-time consolation for United.
