Match Report:

Burnley won a thrilling match with a last gasp winner from Man of the Match Andy Payton. The game started off in the worst possible way when a defensive mix-up saw Steve Anthrobus ram home his shot past a helpless Crichton in the Burnley goal. The Oxford goal came very much against the run of play as the Clarets battered United defence for long periods. Burnley's superiority finally showed when Phil Whelan brought down John Mullin in the box and saw Payton lash home the resulting penalty. The first half ended with the Clarets heavily on top but a different pattern emerged in the second half when Oxford stepped up a gear.
Phil Whelan got the goal to give them the lead when a Joey Beauchamp corner was headed in at the near post. Oxford went for a third and missed a whole host of chances before the Clarets started to creep back into the game. Paul weller, on for Paul Cook, crossed and found Andy Payton free in the box who thrashed the ball home to draw level. With no time left on the clock Payton completed his hatrick and sent the large crowd into raptures by sealing a remarkable record.

Final Score: 3 - 2
