| GOALS | 0-1 CURETON (30) - A corner was headed
the wrong way by Whelan. After a massive scramble, Cureton volleyed it
in.
0-2 CURETON (56) - A corner was badly cleared by Murphy. Cureton turned in Thomson's shot. 0-3 PETHICK (74) - Pethick ran through from midfield, and lashed home Trees' cross from 20 yards. 0-4 ELLINGTON (75) - The defence disappeared, giving Ellington space to curl home a long range shot. 0-5 CURETON (80) - Terrible backpass from Joey, straight to Cureton. A simple completion of his hat-trick. |
| PERFORMANCE | Another crap performance under Lewis. This time we got the result we deserved. I guess this time we played a good side. |
| MAN OF MATCH | Richard KNIGHT - Poor lad. He made some excellent saves, yet ended up at the wrong end of a 5-0 result. |
| NOT MAN OF MATCH | Steve ANTHROBUS - Did he really play in a Dario Gradi team? No ball control, no ambition. A disgrace. |
| BOOKINGS | None. |
| ATTENDANCE | 7,355 - Wow. The away end looked to be sold out by the hordes of visiting Gas fans. And how they enjoyed it! |
| REFEREE | R D Furnandiz (Doncaster) - Wouldn't have produced a yellow card for murder. Seemed strangely out of touch. |

U's trounced by in-form Rovers
Richard Knight had a dreadful debut as the U's slippped two
places in the table courtesy of 5-0
rout by Bristol Rovers.
Jamie Cureton scored a hat-trick as Rovers moved level on points
with Wigan at the top of the
table.
Cureton made sure that the suspended Jason Roberts wasn't missed
as he took his season's
tally to 15.
The first half was fairly even though with just one goal separating
the two sides at the break.
Cureton supplied it on the half hour mark lashing the ball home
after Oxford failed to clear a
corner. Oxford also had the ball in the back of the net, but
Jamie Cook's effort was ruled out for
offside. Matt Murphy should have equalised after Cureton's goal,
but he inexplicably spooned the
ball over from five yards. Ronnie Mauge then bought the best
out of Oxford's debutante keeper,
Richard Knight, with a long range drive, which was tipped around
the corner.
Oxford kept up the pressure after the interval and Cook was
just wide of the mark before it all
went horribly wrong for the home fans.
Cureton got his second of the match on 54 minutes, touching
in a Andy Thomson shot. Robbie
Pethick fired in spectacularly on 74 minutes, Nathan Ellington
curled in from the edge of the box,
and Cureton wrapped it up nicely, completing his hat-trick and
the rout, ten minutes from time.
