U's Miss Out
Andy Liddell struck a brilliant second goal in two games to seal a
2-0 Wigan win at Oxford.
Scott Green fired Wigan ahead after just eleven minutes, almost walking
the ball into the net from Brian McLaughlin's pinpoint cross.
Oxford had keeper Richard Knight to thank for keeping the score down
as he made a string of excellent saves to keep the U's in this match. Oxford
almost grabbed a late equaliser when Andy Linighan headed narrowly over
from Joey Beauchamp's free kick late in the second half.
It was all over, though, and the U's were ruing the chance missed when
Liddell sealed the points for Wigan with his spectacular 25-yard strike
two minutes from time.
