TEAMTALK

Seven away defeats in a row!

Rotherham blew away Oxford, but all the goals in a 3-1 win for the Millers came late in the game, Derek Lilly scored for the U's.
Rotherham were the clear favourites going into the game, they were sitting in a good position at the top end of the table while Oxford had lost their last six away games.
It was a first half totally dominated by the home side, they had all the chances and all the possession but found it difficult to break down a five-man Oxford defence.
The closest the Millers came was with Darren Garner, his rasping shot just went over the Oxford bar.
The visitors were undoubtedly the happier side going into the break.
Rotherham were the side who started the second half the brighter of the two teams, within the first five minutes of the break, Ronnie Moore’s men had two goals disallowed for offside.
Finally, Rotherham got a goal. After Oxford had been camped in their own half during the entire game they conceded a free kick just outside the area. It was nipped through to Paul Warne who shot and it went in off the bar and bounced over the line.
There was some confusion whether the goal had been given, but after the referee had consulted his assistant, Rotherham were awarded the goal when it was adjudged that the ball had crossed the line.
Kevin Watson then sealed the points for the Millers with a goal to make it 2-0 in the eighty second minute, and this was a deserved lead as the home side dominated this game from start to finish.
It was a fantastic strike from Watson; his thirty-yard volley into the roof of the net was an absolute scorcher.
Oxford didn’t have too many chances in the game, but then Derek Lilly got a chance to score and did just a minute later. His goal was equally as good as Watson’s at the other end, he latched onto a stray Dave Artell header and thumped in the volley past Ian Gray in the Millers goal to give the home fans a worrying few minutes.
But it was to no avail as while Rotherham were defending the Oxford attacks, Warne broke free when Jon Sheppherd’s header indivertibly fell to him and chipped the goalkeeper to wrap the game up with a good finish.
That was the final action of the game, and the Millers will be more than happy with the win while Oxford lost for the seventh time on the bounce on their travels.
