Oxford stung by
Bees
Tony Folan gave Brentford
their first league victory since February 21st when
he scored the only
goal of the game at Oxford United.
The Bee's midfielder
fired an unstoppable 20-yard volley through a crowded
goal mouth after the
Oxford defence had failed to deal with a Paul Evans
corner.
Oxford showed none
of the attacking threat they had managed when winning at
Wolves in mid-week,
and although they had their chances, they failed to
seriously trouble
Brentford keeper Olafur Gottskalksson's goal.
United's Jon Shephard
came close with a header following a Dean Whitehead
free kick, John Robertson
came close with a cross/shot in the 41st minute and
Whitehead himself
fired a shot just wide from 30 yards.
Mark McCammon could
have doubled the lead just before half time, but he was
denied by Knight and
he came close in the second half but the shot was
cleared off the line
by John Shepherd.
