Those selected have nothing to prove, they've made their mark over the season. Why does the NFL prolong the season for an extra game where missed blocks are the norm and QuarterBacks can be leveled? There is a risk of injury to the leagues STARS. Not a good idea. As for the coaches how well can you do with what is little more than a scratch side? So the whole point of the game is missing that of showing the great talents. Sure go ahead and name the AFC and NFC all-pro teams, but leave it at that. Does the league MVP play one-on-one against himself in an MVP Bowl? So why should the all-pro teams have to do it?
The Pro Bowl is rather meaningless - so hears an idea - Scrap it! Cancel the ProBowl and change the whole concept of the All-Pro teams. And while we are at it how about changing that 'Hall of Fame' Pre-Season Game? It's pre-season coaches are too busy trying rookies to care about a 'Hall of Fame' Game. Why not combine the Pro Bowl and the 'Hall of Fame' Game with one other factor - The WLAF All World Team.
The WLAF players vs the NFL. Sound like a mismatch? Not if it's played in Pre-Season to the NFL. The WLAF players should have just finished regular season and for some an NFL camp - They'll be in shape and should know each other rather well. The NFL players will be rusty and need a little work out. So Why not play them against each other? Sure on paper the NFL should wipe the floor with the WLAF. But then the AFL were never meant to win the Superbowl (okay they don't any more but the USED TO). The WLAF players will be hungry very hungry the NFL players complacent :- What a possible match up!
This could pave the way for the next plan... World Bowl Champions getting to play against NFL teams. Perhaps only in pre-season at first but then there could be the possible real live match ups that mean something. It's been suggested that a promotion/religation game should be played between the World Bowl champs and the worst team in the NFL :- But hey do we really want the play the Jets? Mind you a Claymores Vs Buffalo.... now that's something I could really grow to love.
We've already mentioned how the WLAF can move forward in ArmChair GM #2 . But those plans need an awful lot of Scheduling and setting up. The 'Hall of Fame Game' with the WLAF Vs the NFL would need VERY little and give the WLAF something it needs to win over European sceptics... Legitimacy!
