Hi, Thanks for taking the time to read about me and my friends. Like I said my name is Brian Barnes but my friends call me Bern. I am twenty years old and currently self employed. I own and operate a small16 track recording studio that I started my senior year in high school. I basically started the studio because
I grew up playing the guitar and saxophone. I have also learned to play many other instruments since the
age of 13, including the piano (I currently have a Korg i3 keyboard), drums and percussion instruments,
bass guitar(of course), Harmonica and violin (or as I prefer to call it the fiddle). At about 16 I started
recording with a fostex 4-track cassette recorder. Since then I started to learn more and more about
recording and now I have my own business which works out pretty well for me because if your gonna
rodeo (or a least rope) you have to have to have a job, and most employers around here won't give you
every weekend off which I need to rope!
Since about the 9th grade I was always in a rock band. My best friend David Burrough started
roping about this time. For some reason I fought the cowboy life style all through high school. I would
listen to Chris Ledoux, George Straight, etc.. when I was with Dave but then I would go home and crank
the volume knob on my amp to 11 and blow my parents out of the house. The cowboy lifestyle was slowly
rubbing off on me more and more every day. Finally one night Dave and I went to the Chris Ledoux and
Little Texas concert at the Coffeyville rodeo in Coffeyville, KS (I have to say it was better than any rock concert I ever attended)
and I realized I was just missing out on to much. We stuck around after the show and met the bands and
that when I realized I wanted to play country music (however just playing country music doesn't hardly
make you a cowboy, but I'm not going to mention any names---cough,cough,Garth Brooks, cough, cough)
After I graduated I started going out with this girl (and I defiantly won't mention her name!!) Anyway
her uncle owned a small ranch and I started going over there on the weekends and riding and roping off
thier horses (during this time Dave was going to farrier college in Sperry, OK and had no idea that I had
started roping). So when he came back to Pryor he was really surprised and it wasn't long before we became roping partners. I have
been roping ever since and I love it. Dave and I travel a lot always going to a roping and I still play my
guitar but it doesn't plug into an amp. Some people don't like the fact that I changed but I don't care.
I am a cowboy and I'm damn proud of it!
One of my usual hangouts is the circle L arena in Ocheleta, OK. The owners of the arena are the parents
of Britt Bockius (#2 healer in the world as of Dec 1995). Dave and I usually go up there on Wednesday
and Friday nights during the winter being that it is insulated and heated. During the summer we go to every
roping that we possibly can. We usually just go to team ropings now because (and I will admit it) I still
have a great deal to learn about roping. I have only been "majorly" serious about roping for about a year now.
However, hopefully sometime this year we will start getting into a few rodeos and giving that a shot. I hope
that will work out OK!
Hi again, and welcome to part 2 of my wonderfully boring story. (as you can probably tell I already
have way to much time on my hands!) In August of 1995 I enlisted in the Oklahoma Air National Guard.
I am a inventory management specialist in the logistics squadron of the 138th tactical fighting group
in Tulsa, OK. .
In August I plan on starting college at Rogers State College in Claremore, OK to began working
on a bachelors degree in computer science. Also during this time I plan on taking some tech classes to
further my E.M.T.-D license to a E.M.T.-P or a paramedic. The national guard is paying 100% of my
college so I just have to pay for my paramedic classes. After I obtain my paramedic license I plan on
moving to stillwater, OK and attending Oklahoma State University to finish out my degree. (All this of
course unless I get into the P.R.C.A and rodeo full time!!!)
I'm going to shut up for now because your eyes are probably getting pretty tired. I really hope you'll
enjoy this site. These are the first web pages I have ever designed they might not be much but
I am pretty proud of them. If ya want to write me just click on the back button below and fill out my comment
form or e-mail me. (Ladies, I'm single) C-ya around the web!!! Thanks!
