Played at Manor Road Sports Ground, Oadby - 3/11/96
At the end of 1996, we played Leicester for the first time. We played on astroturf, with about 8-a side! It was closer than the 5-2 loss suggested but their keeper had an inspired game. I can't remember how we scored, although one of them could have been from a set-piece - I'm sure Nick will dredge up from his memory who scored it from about the M1.
Well thats what Nick Wheat had to say about the game on his RamsNet page. As you can see it is so deep back in the early days of Internet Football people just didn't bother with match reports then! He was right about the free-kick, it was a very good direct strike.
For my two-penneth... it was our first ever Internet match. We booked the astroturf at Manor Road in Oadby, but both teams were short so we played across the pitch using the six-a-side goals. I have no idea who played for us, except I remember Porl Coulson, Jason Dykes and myself Derek Marshall all played in the game, and I seem to recall Jason scoring at least one goal. I think the scoring went as follows 1-0, 2-0, 2-1, 3-1, 4-1, 5-1, 5-2. The game was pretty close with both sides having plenty of chances.
This game was staged with the Yetis having had one six-a-side session in the nearby gym, and it led to our first win!.
