ACNE

Description
Acne is the inflammation of the sebaceous glands and the hair follicles found on the neck, face and shoulders, even on the back. They are usually accompanied by blackheads. There are aften large pores and the lesions may leave large visable scarring. Acne is a problem of a combination of things - trapped oil, bacteria and thickened skin.

Causes
Acne is usually hormonal - beginning at Puberty, and subsiding in the early twenties. Other factors which aggrevate acne are poor diet, stress and poor hygiene.

Treatment
There are many different types of acne, the following suggestions generally apply to all of them.

Acne rosacea is accompanied by redness. It often helps to take a Vitamin B supplement and Avoidance of Allergies. Anything that stimulates heat or flushing should be avoided - such as alcohole, coffee, hot spices etc. A few drops of lavendar oil on acen rosacea can help, but keep it away from the eyes.

Applies Externally
*Calendula *Golden Seal *Tea-Tree Oil - Apply undiluted on the lesions (The Medical Journal of Australia reported that even 5% was beneficial!)

To Prevent scarring, use pure Aloe Gel OR Vitamin E oil.

FROM THE KITCHEN
* Fresh Lemon Juice - dabbed on the affected areas *Fresh Cabbage Juice - applied externally *Sage - the cold tea may be patted on as an astringent ; it is mildly antiseptic and has a drying effect.
Facial steam baths using any of the pleasantly aromatic leaves or eucalyptus leaves can help.

Diet
A diet which is high in Vegetables, fat-reduced products, soy and fish are beneficial for skin problem (such as acne). Avoiding all refined foods (eg. Margarine, sweets etc) also help. Also keep a diet of low fat and low salt. Use filtered water for drinking if possible. Water is natures flushing agent, just don't overdo it. Too much water can lead to fluid retention.
