Virgo -24th August - 22nd September

Virgo, being the sixth sign of the Zodiac, completes the stage of the 'physical' in the evolution process of the individual. Virgo confronts the personal dimension, aswell as the dimension of 'society', adapting and coming to terms with these, while striving to achieve perfection through self criticism and analysis. Order, efficiency and exactitude and Virgo's main concern.
POSITIVE TRAITS
Virgoans are sincere, dependable people. They are methodical, neat, and as perfectionists, are extremely self-critical. They are attracted to anything analytical, and attention which is of constantly changing variety. They take great pride in their work, and are attracted to learning. The receptive Virgoans are the easiest to educate. The Virgoan sign is proficient at handicraft work, and are artistically inclined. They are also health, diet and hygiene conscious. This sign is also modest.
NEGATIVE TRAITS
The constant quest for perfection and the obsession with detail usually obscures the broader view, and if this is over-stressed, can produce a paranoid, cantankerous person. The cool Mercurial reserve which this sign holds can lead to stand-offishness, their health concerns can lead to hypochondria, and their charming modesty can lead to a lack of self confidence. Virgo's innate intelligence can deteriorate into deviousness.
MYTHOLOGY
When the time came for Astraea, Greek Goddess of Justice to leave earth and descend into the heavens, she became Virgo, sixth sign of the Zodiac. The Egyptians saw Virgo as Nidaba, Goddess of Grain. This was because their harvest began when the moon was in this constellation. Christianity saw Virgo as the Virgin Mary and Virgo, clothed in flowing robes, is generally portrayed carrying a sheaf of wheat, some palm leaves or a vase.
RELATIONSHIPS
COMPATIBLE SIGNS: Capricorn and Taurus
POLAR (opposite) SIGNS: Pisces.
Virgoans make neat, methodical homemakers, always 'on the go', forever improving their homes with useful, artistically pleasing items - usually crafted by themselves. To cautious Capricorn, Virgo's health and hygiene concerns would be most acceptable, who would also admire the careful handling of financial affairs. Capricorn would make responsible, faithful partners who, like Virgoans are susceptable to nervous stress, Taurus - patient and plodding would bring a warm, Venusian sensuality to a submissive 'virginal' Virgo. Partners need to be accommodating of this critical, perfectionistic sign which constantly demands of the best.
CAREERS
Virgoans are happy in productive, practical occupations which require meticulous attention to detail. Such careers include Confidential Secretary or P.A., Chemist, Scientist, dietician, doctor and even Naturopath, even such callings as the accountant or clerk, are all applicable to this sign. Paricularly suitable would be the craftsperson, involved in the production of beautiful items which also have a functional value. Also, careers of the 'communications professions' such as journalist, writer and most especially 'critic' are advised for this Zodiac sign.
HEALTH
Virgo rules the hands, nervous system and also the intestines. The link with the intestines indicates Virgo's link with food and interest in dietary matters.Virgoans should be aware that their concern with perfection in detail that everything has to be 'just right' gives rise to nervous stress which may lead to stomach ailments. Indicating hypocondria is the preoccupation with the subject of ones own health.

This starsign has the gemstone 'sardonyx' - which is a variety of Chalcedony. It was named 'Sard' because it was found in the ancient agate-trading center of 'Sardis" in Asia Minor, and 'onyx' or 'nail' because it's colour resembles that of the skin beneath the human nail. As onyx is an agate - an opaque relation to Chalcedony - and features black and white banding, so sardonyx is an agate banded with opal, quartz and chalcedony, giving a rich combination of orange, brown and white hues. Chalcedony itself was believed to drive away sadness and protect the wearer from depressing influences, melancholy and 'dark dread'. When worn as an amulet, it is said to lead exhalted positions, give courage to orators and bashful lovers, protect warriors. preserve the wounded, and aid women during childbirth.
