Libra, as the seventh astrological sign, enters the second half of the Zodiac and is desirous of amiable communion on simple terms - as in the one-to-one relationship. Symbolising Balanced, harmonious unity with a significant 'other', charming Libra is also the sign of Justice, diplomacy and the arts.
POSITIVE TRAITS
Librans are considerate, and courteous and enjoy communicating and the companionship of their fellows. They avoid friction where ever possible, using tact rather than aggression when confronted. Librans are amiable peace-lovers and will mediate and try to unite those that are quarrelling. The Libran sign is concerned with Balance, and those of this sign are fair-minded with a slightly developed sense of justice. Librans are intelligent, clear-thinking, generally truthful people who are loyal, and show a generally sympathetic attitude to those who are less fortunate.
NEGATIVE TRAITS
The Harmony seeking Libran can be self-pitying and disillusioned by the natural 'disharmony' of life. They can gain a reputation for being 'flirtatious' because of their never ending search for that 'special relationship'. Procrastination, downright laziness and ultra-sensitivity are all too common faults with Librans, as is Vanity - when a preoccupation with appearance becomes over-stressed.
MYTHOLOGY
Libra represents balance, or the scales of Justice. In ancient Egypt however, it's glyph shows a sunset over the Earth, representing the 'male' Sun with the 'female' Earth beneath, and the 'space of air' in between. The ancients told that Libra and Scorpio was once a single figure, with Libra envisaged as being held in the claws of Scorpio, and known as the 'claws of the Scorpion'. Greek legends associate Libra with Mochis, inventor of weights and measures. Libra's span also covers the time of weighing the harvest.
RELATIONSHIPS
COMPATIBLE SIGNS: Aquarius and Gemini
POLAR (OPPOSITE) SIGN : Aries
With communicativeness and a keen intellect linking all three Air signs, charming Libra is agreeably affectionate with a strong desire to please. - albeit continually 'weighing the balance' with regard to partners. Should this be found lacking, Libra cools and continues the search for that 'significant other'. Cool Aquarius could be a faithful, fair-minded partner, given space to pursue mental interests and meet friends at the club. Lively Gemini could over-ride Libra's natural laziness and bring versatility to a relationship. Partners should encourage positivity6 to counteract Libran 'hesitancy' and indecisiveness.
CAREERS
Librans are not generally ambitious, and feel at ease in professions the involve one to one coucelling - such as marriage guidance, or career advisers. The excel particularly well in the judicial, diplomatic and financial fields. Librans are particularly well placed in the world of Fashion and beauty. Careers in the Arts also apply to the Libran, who are Venus influenced, therefore being particularly well placed in careers from Artist, collector to valuer to musician, dancer or even juggler.
HEALTH
Librans rule the area of the Kidneys, loins, lumbar regions and the urinary system, and illnesses concerning these areas prevail. Diseases such as nephritis, lumbago and urinary tract infections tend to afflict the Libran. Given Libra's well-balanced tenor of life, health is generally good. Care should be taken however to preserve this equilibrium, and not to allow the inherent Libran languor to jeopardise the regime

Deriving also from the Greek 'ops' meaning 'eye' it was considered unlucky to introduce the opal or 'eye stone' into a house because it interfered with the sanctity of domestic privacy. Thought to be capable of opening up the 'third eye', the opal was used by mystics seeking to enter the 'supernatural realms' The opal shows a great variety of colours and patterns and the opal changes both colour and character with both prevailing light and temperature. The opal is also said to protect areas of the body which emit and are sources of heat.
