Welcome to my page on aromatherapy. This page is just a small introduction to the uses of Aromatherapy, and a little insight to how smell can help you recover from illnesses and enhance you'r general health and appearance.
Certain herbs contain certain healing properties. These properties are enhanced when a herb has it's essential oils extracted. Essential oils are usually extremely concentrated, therefore making the healing properties stonger.
e.g. Lavendar - Essential Lavender Oil - this oil has strong relaxing properties, it disgards headaches and general aches and pains. It's effect is soothing.
Eucalyptus - Essential Eucalyptus Oil - this is an antibacterial oil. It clears stuffy noses, and eases congestion. Hospitals burn this essential oil because of the antibacterial properties.
Plant oils such as oil of St. Johns wort were used to treat battle wounds by knights in the Crusades.
By the end of the 18th Century essential oils were widely being used in medicinal preparations. They were used until it was found that synthetics could be produced more easily, and cheaply. However, although
synthetics smell the same, they don't hold those special theraputic qualities that are found in the real essential oil.
