Aries 21st March - 20th April
Aries, the first sing of the Zodiac, marks the beginning of the suns journey through the twelve signs. The raw, primitive energy of Aries initiates new ideas with courage and passion. Self willed and rebellious, this is the assertive sign of explorers, leaders of expeditions and pioneers of all types.
POSITIVE TRAITS
Arians are direct in manner and speech and do not tolerate subterfuge and duplicity. They can be stimulating, if sometimes tactless companions, being incisive and satirical in their conversation. Enterprising and showing unlimited energy when dealing with their own affairs, Arians 'think on their feet' and react well under stress. While displays of fiery anger are quick to flare, these fade just as swiftly as they break out initially: Arians do not tend to harbour long-term resentment.
NEGATIVE TRAITS
The forcefulness and drive of Aries, if misused, can degenerate into selfish, aggressive, quarrelsome behaviour which displays complete disregard for the feelings of others. The Egocentricity of the Aries can be imprudent, boastful and show a restlessness often resulting in impulsive, foolhardy heroics. Careerwise, promotion of the self, and a tendency to progress at the expense of others, can be seen as ruthlessness. Positive channelling of the Martian energy drive is essential to Arians.
MYTHOLOGY OF ARIES;
Aries is known as the sign of new beginnings, and in Assyrian mythology Aries means 'Prince', indicating that by nature, and as the first sign of the Zodiac, Aries is a leader. The Arian Glyph, popularly though to represent the horns of a ram, was also said to be a primitive representation of a humans eyebrows and nose, and a 'fount' of energy indicating the source of the Arian energy drive - both these having associations with the head over which Aries has rule. The Ancient Egyptians equated Aries with the Ram headed God, Amun, or Amon-Ra, Sun- God, creator and leader of the universe.

RELATIONSHIPS
Compatible signs - Leo and Sagittarius.
For impulsive Aries, life is motivated by an assertive ego drive which tolerant Leo could harness, and stabilise with warm hearted kindliness. Each had the forceful sexuality associated with all the fire signs, and Leo's Generous affections should be amply rewarded by passionate Aries. The third fire sign jovial, expansive Saggitarius could bring BONHOMIE, optimism, and intellectual stimulation to a partnership with Aries, who should be fully prepared to allow freedom loving Sagittarius plenty of rein. Arian are ardent , though generally faithful and can make possessive, even jealous partners who need understanding.
CAREERS
Careers presenting a challenge appeal most to Arians - especially those where energy and initiative is required, such as racing driver, sportsman, member of the armed services or explorer. As Aries rule the head, Arian often make good hairstylists, or - on a mental plane - psychiatrists and psychologists. Associations with Fire and metal make the blacksmith and steelworker an obvious choice - also professions which involve cutting tools. And given the incisive Arian wit - a writer of satire.
HEALTH
Diseases that 'head first' Arians should guard against are conditions associated with the head - such as those affecting the brain, the face and eyes, the upper jaw, the cerebrum and carotid arteries. Typical Arian complaints are brain fever due to stress and overwork, headaches, neuralgic and eye troubles, tooth ache and gumboils - also feverish illness', such as influenza. Accidents to the head resulting in blood loss, and cuts and burns reflect the red, caustic effect of Mars.
GEMSTONE - DIAMOND
The diamond, with it's brilliant lustre is natures hardest known mineral. It is said to ensure longevity, and, to quote from the BOKE OF SECRETS OF ALBERTUS MAGNUS, if bound to ones left side, the diamond is 'good against enemies, madness, wild beasts against chiding men, .venom and the invasion of fantasies' Legends surrounding the great diamonds of history - such as the Koh-I-Noor, the hope and the Orloff diamond - abound and most concern the disastrous influence of this fateful jewel. Much prized and often of value beyond the dreams of avarice, the diamond remains the most coveted and desirable of all known jewels.
The ancient Romans believed that the diamond warded off madness, bolstered courage and ensured long life for it's owner. More practically, before splitting a diamond, Roman craftsmen dipped it in goat's blood 'to make it fragile'.
The diamond has always been a token of love - it's purity and durability symbolising the qualities of that love. Also known as the Philosophers' Stone, alchemists believed the diamond to be the ultimate in beauty and perfection.
