What is LUSCR? Bells!

LUSCR is a group of students who all share an interest in church bell ringing.

Yes, that’s right. We are those annoying people who disturb your Sunday morning lie-in with all that clatter.

LUSCR welcomes ALL students in higher education in Liverpool, whether from The University, John Moores, Hope College, Liverpool Institute, St Catherine’s College, or any others that may be out there. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never pulled a rope in your life, all you need is enthusiasm and a will to learn. Change ringing is actually quite interesting and extremely good fun, and we can teach you all you need to know. A sense of humour might therefore be a good idea too.

We are required by the Guild of Students to charge an annual membership fee, but this is only £3.00 so even impoverished students like us can afford to join!

Not convinced we are worth joining yet?   Read on!

We are primarily responsible for the ringing of the bells of St Francis Xavier [known as SFX], the Roman Catholic church on Salisbury Street in Everton (8 bells, tenor weight 16cwt, map reference SJ356912). However, as the church is currently being extensively rebuilt by Hope University College, we are currently joining local ringing instead of holding a practice night of our own.

But that’s not all we do.
That would be boring.

We organise a whole range of events throughout the year. Some of them involve ringing, many don’t.

We visit at least three different pubs each week, before and after (and occasionally instead of) ringing. Regular social events each term include pub crawls, pancake parties, evenings out and end-of-term meals, as well as the local branch ringing meetings and events. Early in the autumn term we go ten-pin bowling so that we can get to know our new members better, and also on the annual calendar is the Northern Universities Association weekend in November (this year in Birmingham) plus our Freshers', Easter, Summer and Reunion Ringing Tours, and of course there is also THE social event of the year – The Annual Dinner – held in fine style on the last Saturday of February.

Convinced you? Here's how to get in touch.
