What's wrong with Pledging???

From the day you are invited to join you will have all the rights and privileges of membership. Our program is called "Associate Membership". This program is unique among fraternities here at KU. This is because Lambda Chi Alpha is the first Greek organization on this campus and in the Nation to have Associate Membership. You will find that when many or your friends who have joined other fraternities areaccepted, they became "Pledges".

They must also go through a period of "Pledge Training" or "Pledge Education"

You will find many or all of the following elements in these programs:

  • The pledge class is organized into a rigid structure.
  • Pledges do not have a voice or vote in chapter meeings. They meet almost exculsively as a pledge class
  • Discipline of pledges is generally done as a group, and is frequently based on different standards (Higher) than         areapplied to active members.
  • House Cleaning duties are done mostly, if not entirely, by pledges.
  • There is a sharp distinction in status between actives and pledges.
  • Pledges undergo various degrees of harassment, mental and/or physical hazing.
  • Many of the pledges don't like what they have to put up with, and many of them leave because of it.
  • This creates an "us against them" relationship with the initiated members. A seperate entity or species from the initiate. Lambda Chi Alpha chose instead to adopt a program whereby each prospective member is accepted as an individual and given the freedom to develop and expand his character, personality, talents, and abilities to the limits of his own potential- from the first day of association with the Fraternity. Ideals are what makes a "Fraternity"what it is-Lambda Chi Alpha is Belonging!!!
