I'm Lydia, nice to meet you. You must be wondering
why I built this homepage...yeah, why I began learning HTML from
scratch even though I'm relatively computer illiterate, why I spent days
just sitting at the computer to set up this
website, knowing nothing about building websites in the first place.
Here's why: I am a former student of Fairfield Methodist
and had the honour of being taught by these teachers. If I can't say
a proper goodbye to them, this tribute is the least I can do. I tried
very hard not to make this look like a depressing "obituary", because
obituary's an ugly word and conjures up depressing images. Please keep in mind:
this is just a tribute to them. What they meant to me I did not know Mrs Soon personally, but I did the other three. Mrs Tan taught me Art and I learned alot about the technical side of Art from her. She was inspiring and kept giving her students lots of ideas and advice on how to approach the subject. Ever dedicated, she even took leave from her Teacher's Day holiday to help the Sec 4/5s with our projects.
Ms Koh taught my class History. She would always pepper our lessons with jokes and witty, sarcastic remarks. Also a story or two to liven things up. She was a cute woman who couldn't tolerate my class most of the time (as is the case with ALL our teachers!). Once, when another teacher asked if she could take over our class for English remedial, Ms Koh replied in good humour, "You may take them this minute if you like; I can't tolerate them any longer!"
But I am sure deep down she loved us very much *grin*
I got acquainted with Ms Yee while on a school Literature trip to England. Petite in size, she was a teacher who delved deep during Lit lessons. Listening to her teach on how to write a villanelle was interesting as she explained everything clearly. I did not know her well, though, I must say. But we have crossed paths in life and her departure, as well as Mrs Soon's, have both touched me. This homepage is for all four of them.
In Retrospect
Their lives have left a lasting impression on me and (dare I mention
it?) even more so their death. Don't kill me for saying that. If not
for the crash, we would not be reminded of the fragility of life;
how swiftly it comes and goes. There is a time and reason for all
things. They died for a reason. And so, they had a purpose in death
as in life.
