This is a heart symbol which was popular in the Pennsylvania German culture during the mid-nineteenth century.(Kaufman 41) This heart symbol was taken from a gravestone with German text from 1833 from the Emanuel United Church of Christ cemetary in Abbottstown Pennsylvania.
