This is a picture of a cherub. The cherub design became popular throughout the north eastern United States around the years 1770 to 1800.(Deetz In Small Things Forgotten 70) This Cherub carving was found on a gravestone with German text from 1807 from the Emanuel United Church of Christ cemetary in Abbottstown Pennsylvania. It was one of only two cherub designs that were found in our radius.
