It's been a while since the last ALU, so here's a snippet from mail I sent to Becky earlier
today. It sums things up nicely.

Things are going well here. I am taking an "Irish Language" class, which is interesting.
It's going very slowly, because the teacher is very, VERY determined to make sure we get the
basics before we get in over our heads. We're had our 4th class last night, and we still
haven't finished the first chapter. So far we have numbers, hello, goodbye, how are you,
and my name is. Heh, not a very exciting conversation :-)

My job hunt is kinda stalled. I've only sent out one resume in the last 3 or 4 weeks. There
really hasn't been much that I am qualified for, and it's just easier to stay with my current
job (I'm telecommuting) because I'm sure I'll take a huge paycut and have a very long commute
when I do get another job.

Health Insurance has been a chore; I'm debating between taking a deductible, vs. higher monthly
payments. I think I'll do higher payments because I'm crossing my fingers and hoping to find
a perfect job. We'll see!

Last weekend was nice, it was Scott's first weekend of NOT sailing races, so we got to spend the
whole time together. We had one of Scott's friends over to play "Munchkin", a card game, on
Friday. Saturday we went sailing on the lake nearby, because it was the last weekend for the
"little boats". Sunday I broke out my waffle maker for the first time in years and we had
waffles and jam for breakfast, then Scott worked on his computers. Much fun for him, kinda
boring for me. On the plus side for me though, Scott tripled the RAM in my computer while he was
cleaning up his "Extra Stuff". Very cool.

Yesterday I was reading up on breastfeeding (I had to explain nursing pads to Scott, and was
trying to find something online to back me up) and found all these articles about exercising when
you have kids. It guilted me to go out walking. Here I was reading about women who get up at 5
so they can go to the gym for an hour while their husband is home and the kids are sleeping so
they can get their exercise. I don't have kids, and I don't have the energy for that sort of
thing, so I decided I had better start now or I never WILL have the energy! Plus my Dad had his
Physical, and the has the resting heart rate of a marathon runner (49 beats per minute). I guess
I had better be more like dad and exercise, if I want to live long enough to take care of him when
he hits 120!

So yeah, that's what's new with me: Irish, working part time, health kick.

And that's pretty much it. I have three new pictures haning in my living room. OK, actually 3
old pictures finally in frames I bought on eBay. Southampton '01 Lighthouse, Southampton '03
sunset, and Niagara Falls '02 Horseshoe Falls as viewed from the Canadian side. Which means I
have a very decorated house; I may have to get a bigger apartment next time just to have places
for all my kitch.

I've been playing on eBay a lot, I have my eye on a ring that's a lot like Jeannine's engagement
ring: Sapphire in the middle, white triangles on the sides. 'Cept it's oval, and the triangle
is made up of 3 round stones instead of actual Trillium cut diamonds, and it's in yellow gold.

I've been updating my livejournal a bit, but not much. I do better when I am just writing the
ALU's, and I guilt myself into a big update every so often!

This weekend Scott and I are going to a wine tasting at "Austin Liquors" - the good liquor store
in Shrewsbury. Then we're hoping Brian and Shannon will come over for Scott's famous Black Pepper
Steaks, which will give me an excuse to make Cornbread Casserole and Broccoli salad, maybe some
twice baked potatoes. We haven't decided on dessert yet.

Then I have 2 weekends to clean franticly before my PARENTS arrive on November 5th and stay
through the 9th. I've actually started pre-emptive cleaning so it won't be so bad. I sprayed
the bathroom sink with wheel cleaner (oxalic acid) last night. Bright and shiny, let me tell
you!

We're planning to do the duck tours, maybe hit the "National Museum of Plastics" in Leominster,
and generally do the tourist thing. Scott is even taking the weekend off from crazy winter
sailboat racing to do the duck tours with us!

Take care, everybody, and have a safe and Happy Halloween!
