From: "Amy H." Subject: ALU 5/15/2001 Date: Tue, 15 May 2001 12:25:53 -0400 -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- hi! The merger is final. Actually it has been final for a while, I'm just not sure if I told everybody. We just found out today that we're moving to a different building in July. Actually it's one of our old buildings, before the merger everyone moved in here, presumably b/c the network hardware is all here and it's be a pain in the behind to rewire. But now we're moving into the bigger building, with the training room, which plan A (back in the Fall) was to rewire and move the server stuff over there anyways. I've also become more like my Mom lately: I've been looking to buy jewelry! You can check out photos at my website. In just under an hour my bid at eBay becomes final, and I will have a new platinum ring! Tanzanite and platinum, to be specific. The one I have a bid in on right now has an oval stone, a twist on the pear shaped stone that Stacie has. The other one, with a photo at my website, is an engagement ring. I don't think I'll buy it though - wearing things like that tends to raise a few eyebrows, and I don't think I'm going that route for a while ^_^ Though maybe I could get it in a 8 and wear it on my right hand... Hmm.... *laugh* I've started watching "Invader Zim" Friday nights at 9 on Nickelodeon. It's a pretty cool show, and it's by the same guy who did Johnny the Homocidal Maniac. I have no background on that, but some of you might. John Wilk was coming over for that, at least he did for a coupld of Fridays. AS of Sunday he moved to Chicago, which is a sad day. We've gotten to be very good friends. On a brighter note, though, he'll be coming back every weekend to finish the research for his thesis, and his work will have him in Michigan frequently (i.e. he's in Jackson and Kalamazoo today). I'm planning to be in Traverse City on the second weekend in June for my cousin's graduation party. I'm hoping to see more friends than I have lately; it's been a while for some. And for all the people I freaked out when I burned my finger and lost feeling: The feeling's back, it's just a callous now, but there's no fingerprint on it. Maybe when the callous falls off I'll have some under it? We'll see. Hmm, that about wraps it up: Car is good, roomates are good, planning to live in the same house next year, job is good, planning to keep that for a while too! :-) Later! -AmyMy index page from the date of this ALU
And an explanation of that finger burning incident, which I sent to Chris Meuzelaar:
You remember Ben Lasky, Nadia dated briefly freshman year and then pined over for a while? Well, his b-day was May 5 (Cinco de Mayo) and he had a bonfire and drinking and Nadia and I camped there (her first time camping). Soo... the guy who was in charge of the fire left, and I didn't think he did a particularly great job, so I set about making the fire BETTER. A thing NOT to do when you've been drinking. But, I did it very well, and sat down again, and noticed another log in front of me that I thought should be in that nice teepee shape. Bad idea. The underside of the log was glowing embers, so when I picked it up it burned my finger. Just in 1 spot, 1 blister. But it didn't really hurt. That was Saturday before last. I did some research on Monday, and online all sources said that's a 3rd degree burn if you can't feel it. And even if you have a 2nd degree burn on your hands, you should immediately go to the emergency room. Soo... I was freaked out that I was NEVER getting feeling back. Oh well. Too late. Sunday morning (a week after burning it) the blister went away and converted to a hard callous with a red spot in the middle. And it's sort of indented in the middle. I have a chunk missing from my finger! So, I have the feeling back, but no fingerprints yet (as indicated in the e-mail). I think it should be much better next weekend; maybe the callous will fall off or somesuch. -Amy
