Accents

There are two kinds of accents marks in Friulian: grave (�) and circumflex (�).

The grave accent is used:

1) in polysyllabic words which are stressed on the last syllable and end in a vowel

lui al viodar�
2) in polysyllabic words which are stressed on the last syllable and end in vowel followed by -s

patr�s crodar�s fin�s bobor�s cat�s
3) in polysyllabic verb forms ending in -in, when the -in ending is stressed

n� o mangj�n l�r a mangjin n� o fin�n l�r a finissin
4) in some monosyllabic words where the spelling without an accent mark represents another word

lui al � 'he has' a (preposition) l� (adverb) e la (article)
The circumflex accent is used:

1) on long vowels when they occur in monosyllabic words or in the last syllable of polysyllabic words

voc�l fr�t inzign�r disegnad�r br�t
2) in infinitives (and infinitives used as nouns) ending in accented vowels

impar� cap�
