Bare Feet

They smile because the earth is so beautiful.
How can they not notice?
Life's feelings and scents and hues.
Why should they deprive their senses, they way other's do?
Eyes locked on grimy streets,
Fail to notice that lovely songbird as it goes by.
Yet just walk with a child,
And the little one would point and smile.

Feelings are new and wonderful,
To be experienced and expressed,
Not hidden or feared.
Bare feet would do,
Much better than those shoes.
Because there's nothing like the feel of grass underfoot,
Or sand or mud between the toes.
Minds locked on grimy offices fail to remember the pleasure,
Of a priceless treasure;
Like maybe a pet bug or a wild flower.
The ones stupid shoes just step on.

A look at the young ones and you would see,
How their energy gets used as it was intended to be.
For playing and singing and - Ahhh ! Just enjoying life!
Not for adding to stresses by worrying, or selfish acts that create strife.
Not for discontented sighs, displeased yells or hating life as it passes by.
But for unfurling the kindness in hearts that will never try ... to hurt or lie.
No one can love like a child.
Energy to be happy and then share that joy
Is why life always seems just great to little girls and boys.

Hearts locked on profit don't know the happiness you get,
When you give,
A reason to smile.
Finding things to be happy about,
Is what makes a child;
So precious, so different from you and I.
