ACCOMODATION FORM YNT at WCN
Ynt at the World Congress of Neurology (London, UK)

There will be a satellite symposium to discuss the interests of young neurologists and specialist trainees. This is organised by the European Association of Young Neurologists and Trainees (YNT) but is open to those from any country. We are very keen that people from outside Europe should attend and join in the discussion!
Date: Monday 18th June 2001, 17.00-19.00.
Venue: at the World Congress of Neurology, Earls Court, London SW5, UK.

There will be no charge and official registration with the WCN is not essential.
If you wish to attend please just turn up, although we would prefer you to inform the YNT Secretary of your interest ([email protected]).
Cheap accommodation for trainees has been arranged at 15.00 (approximately US$21) per night for a single room in central London in the student hall of residence at Guys Hospital, London Bridge.

Provisional programme:
Introduction to the aims and activities of the YNT.
Speaker from the European Board of Neurology of the Union Europeenne des Medecins Specialistes (UEMS, Union of European Medical Specialists) to discuss the official view on neurology specialist training.
Presentation of the results of the recent YNT pan-European survey on the current state of clinical training in neurology, highlighting areas for improvement.
Open discussion.
The meeting will divide into about six subgroups to allow informal discussion among those with similar subspecialty interests.
After the meeting there will be a guided tour of the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and Institute of Neurology, Queen Square, London WC1. This is one of the most important places in the history of world neurology and remains the major centre of research and clinical neurology in the UK.

A social evening at a bar and restaurant.
General Assembly of the YNT, 2000

The general assembly of the YNT took place at the EFNS meeting in Copenhagen on 18 October 2000, attended by approximately 60 young neurologists. Four topics from the meeting are reported below: (1) highlights of the year 2000,  (2) clinical training in neurology, (3) task orientated work-groups and (4) new YNT officers.

(1)The highlights for the YNT in 2000 included a presence at four international meetings. At ECTRIMS and the 2nd Perugia Stroke meeting the YNT awarded a prize for the best presentation by a young neurologist. At ECTRIMS the YNT arranged a special session for  presentations by young neurologists. The YNT has observer status at meetings of the European Board of Neurology of the UEMS (Union Europen des Mdecins Spcialists).
(2)Clinical training in neurology clearly varies between European countries. Reports to the YNT by young neurologists show an ever increasing interest in new diagnostic disciplines not necessarily covered by traditional training schemes. In particular there is a demand for training in brain imaging, electrophysiological and doppler techniques. Training is starting to focus on disease entities such as cerebrovascular or demyelinating diseases. The YNT plans to organise a pilot European training rotation. The aim will be twofold: on the one hand it should open the door to clinical exchange, and the project should also help to define criteria important for recognition future clinical rotations.
(3)Task orientated work-groups have been the most effective way to bring together young neurologists interested in a certain subspecialty. Further financial support for the YNT has mainly come through companies interested in one disease (e.g. Biogen, Schering). The new task orientated work groups of the YNT are: education (chairman Martin Baalegard, e-mail: [email protected]; contact person for the UEMS: Marco Bonifatio, e-mail: [email protected]), clinical exchange (chairman: David Chkhartishvili, e-mail: [email protected]; secretary: Jon Kafazolpolus). Disease subspecialty workgroups are: multiple sclerosis (chairman David Brassat, e-mail: [email protected]), headache (chairman: Peter Sandor, e-mail: [email protected]), stroke (chairman: Francesco Corea, e-mail: [email protected]), peripheral nerve and muscle (chairman: Robert Hadden, e-mail: [email protected]).
(4)New officers have been elected. They are Konrad Redjak (Pl) as president, Axel Petzold (UK, D) as secretary and Robert Hadden (UK) as treasurer.

YNT in 2001
The YNT invites all young neurologists and neurology trainees to the YNT satellite symposium at the World Congress of Neurology in London on Monday 18th June 2001 at 17.00. The main topic for discussion will be clinical training in Neurology. Afterwards there will be a guided tour of the National Hospital, Queen Square, and a relaxed social gathering to break the ice and begin a week full of exiting presentations and discussions. Cheap accommodation is available at 15.00 per night (contact [email protected]).
The YNT also invites young neurology trainees to the Danube symposium in Lublin, Poland on 29.08.2001. Young neurologists have the opportunity to present their data. Abstracts should be submitted to Dr. Konrad Rejdak ([email protected]).
The YNT web site address has changed to: www.ynt-europe.com Online registration for free membership is possible.
The Danube Symposium

The YNT will have a 2 hour platform, and a poster session at this important European neurologist conference, which is scheduled to take place in Lublin, Poland, in August 2001. The Danube Symposium will be of special interest for neurologists from Eastern Europe. This will enable the YNT to further foster
discussions among young European neurologists from this geographic area. In order to enhance this process, an award is planned for the most creative collaboration originating from this meeting.
