| 2nd Meeting of the EFNS Committee for Juniors and Trainees 4th EFNS Congress, Lisbon Wednesday, 08 September, 1999 14-16h 1. Opening remarks on behalf of the steering group of the Junior Neurologists and Trainees (JNT) of the European Federation of Neurological Societies (EFNS) by Benedikt Schoser. Welcome of participants and presentation of the new agenda. 2. Prof. Grisold (Austria) gave a short review about educational possibilities of the EFNS regarding pre- and postgraduate education and continuing medical education (CME). 3. Prof. Kalvach (Czech Republic) informed about a meeting taking place between the 13-19 April, 2000 in Trest. Five junior neurologists will be invited from each European country of transition (former Eastern block). Educational and clinical situations in the different countries will be discussed followed by a 3-day teaching course. There was a general interest of young neurologists from Western European countries as well, but unfortunately the capacity of this meeting is limited. Konrad Rejdak (Poland) suggested that the next International Danube Symposium in Lublin in 2001 could be a possibility for a joint-meeting. 4. David Brassat, Canan Ozsancak and Axel Petzold gave a report about foundation, aims and interests of the European association of Young Neurologists and Neurologist Trainees (ENT). They pointed out that ENT is an independent association, which includes independence from the European Neurological Society (ENS) and should do so in regard to the EUROPEAN FEDERATION OF NEUROLOGICAL SOCIETIES (EFNS). The intention of the ENT to attend this meeting is to foster one single European association for young neurologists and trainees in Europe. To achieve these actions have been undertaken to enable a joint approach with the Steering committee for Young Neurologists of the EFNS. In particular the ENT postponed putting down their statutes in Brussels. 5. New junior groups have been founded in Poland, Portugal and in the United Kingdom. 6. General discussion whether there should be one or two organization of junior neurologists in Europe (ENT, JNT). It was agreed to vote. Each person present had one vote. In an unanimous vote it was agreed that there should be one single European association for young Neurologists and Trainees. 7. In a two-third majority vote it was agreed that the steering committee of young neurologists (YNT) and the ENT will merge. For a one year transition period there will be an office of two presidents (David Brassat and Benedikt Schoser), two secretaries (Axel Petzold and Judit fra) and two treasurers (Canan Ozsancak and Konrad Rejdak). Domenico Marco Bonifati and Nadja Duchamp-Vandenberghe are the educational representatives. Michael B. Russel is the contact person to the EFNS. The vice-presidents of the ENT board remains as previously. The additional vice-presidents are Joaquim Ferreira (Portugal) and John Karfopulos (Greece). 8. The minutes of this meeting, the addresses of the participants and the preliminary statutes will be sent to all young neurologists involved.
