Graduated with honor (MS degree) in 1981 from the Chemistry Department
of Kiev State University. Graduate studies in 1981-1984 under supervision
of Prof. Skopenko V.V. lead to a successful defense of Candidate of Science
thesis in March of 1985. In 1986 - 1993 Dr. Gerasimchuk was an Assistant
Professor and Associate Professor of Chemistry at the Chemistry Department
of Kiev State University doing teaching and research in the field of synthesis
and investigation of ampolydentate ligands and their metal complexes. Practical
applications of his research have been reflected in issued five patents
about antimicrobial properties of synthesized metallocomplexes.
Since 1993 Dr. Gerasimchuk permanently lives and works in the United
States. He published 53 scientific papers and contributed a chapter
into "Encyclopedia of Inorganic Chemistry" (J. Wiley, 1994), presented
data at numerous conferences including meetings of the American Chemical
Society. In 1996 he received his second PhD degree in bio-inorganic chemistry
from the University of Kansas under supervision of Prof. K. Bowman-James.
Since 1993 until present he is working in the area of normal and expanded
porphyrins and their metal derivatives, pyrrole chemistry.
Dr. Gerasimchuk holds position of Research Chemist at Pharmacyclics,
which is California based company developing and marketing of new
energy potentiating drugs for photodynamic therapy.
Areas of research interests of Dr. Gerasimchuk include synthesis of
organic and coordination compounds of medical/biochemical interest, medicinal
chemistry and physical methods.
