St Kilda East.Something happened, I am so sure I wrote an entry on Saturday to post, but I have lost it. Gone. Vanished. Censorship? Old age? Hmmm.
I am having a "Stay in your pyjamas, eat toast, drink hot chocolate and do nothing" day today. I mean it. All day I will do these things, no going out, no going to work, no nothing. Shit, way back when I was a full time student, and the government supported me, every second day was one of these days. This is the first one I've had in a month!
I have been back in touch with my friend in Canada. Ahhh, the power of email! I am so bursting with happy happy. I thought we'd lost touch, she moved, changed her ISP - gosh I was sure she was trying to lose me, but no such luck. I missed you Vera. (I can say your name here can't I?)
I am only doing one subject at uni this semester, and I just found out - via the internet, that it has an "Open Book" exam as 60% of its assessment. All I can say is - Yes There Is a God! I can now confindently skip classes, photocopy notes and read the reference texts and get a High Distinction like I did last year. yes yes yes.
It rained all weekend after a balmy gross summery week. I hope this is a sign of the winter to come. I could not cope if I thought that winter was going to be so mild this year. I crave snow, and blizzards, and ice. But all we get here in Melbourne is a bit of rain and some fog every now and then. No snow, nothing, lots of wind and rain, but no snow.
The boy played golf and I slept all day. I worked graveyard on Sunday night, but quite out of the ordinary I was able to sleep. I slept from 2am to 6 am which is pretty good. I got out one of those big high backed, sofa type chairs from the boardroom, which has a recline function, and laid back for some sleep. It wasn't quality sleep or anything but my eyes were closed and the hours went by pretty fast. Working the graveyard shift you notice how your body works, its so cool and quiet in there, and you're all by yourself. Your body should be sleeping and performing all its downtime functions, but instead your brain is awake. The thing you notice the most is how many times you go to the toilet. Like EVERY hour on the hour, sometimes on the 1/2 hour. It's crazy, during the day I'm lucky if I go three times. Hmmm, well that is a little bit more info that you need to know, but, well.
Since I'm not doing anything today, and my brain is pretty much in mush mode, I'm going to sign off now.
"....'Hear me now, Eumaios and all you other companions.
What I say will be a bit of boasting. The mad wine tell me
to do it. Wine sets even a thoughtful man to singing,
or sets him to softly laughing, sets him to dancing.
Sometimes it tosses out a word that was better unspoken.
But now I have broken into loud speech I will not suppress it.'..."The Odyssey of Homer
Book XIV, 460-470
The colours will be gone soon I promise.
