Last May, Asiaweek published the results of its studies on the top 50 universities/colleges in the Asia-Pacific region. The criteria includes academic reputation, faculty resources, the ratio of postgraduate degrees among its faculty, student selectivity, student-teacher ratios, and value. The University of the Philippines ranks 25th in the list, while Ateneo de Manila ranked 39th, De La Salle University 41st, and University of Santo Tomas 43rd. The top ten included Tokyo University (1st), Kyoto University (2nd), University of Hong Kong (3rd), Chinese University of Hong Kong (5th), University of Melbourne (9th) and Hong Kong University of Science (10th). UP was highest (19th) among the Four Philippine Universities in the category of financial resources, lowest in terms of annual teachers' pay and benefits, and third in terms of faculty with postgraduate studies.
