University of the Philippines (UP) alumni who are members of the illustrious Upsilon Sigma Phi and its prestigious sister organization: Sigma Delta Phi, held a Fall Reunion in California recently. These student organizations are the oldest Greek societies in Asia. Upsilon Sigma Phi was founded in 1918 and Sigma Delta Phi in 1933, in Manila. Following well attended joint Summer picnics in both the West and East Coasts of North America, the �get-together� was organized by fraternity and sorority members in Northern California and publicized worldwide through the UpsilonNet and the Manila Bulletin USA, vol.4 No.44, October 24-30, 1996. About 40 Upsilonians, Sigma Deltans, and spouses attended the reunion, graciously hosted by Sigma Deltan Consul General Teresita Marzan at the Social Hall of the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco, California on Friday evening, November 8, 1996.

At last count there were about 25 Sigma Deltans and close to 80 Upsilonians in the Bay Area. Two of several �ruby jubilarians�, Toti Fabella and Gerry Pacis were joined by other Brothers and Sisters from as far as Sacaramento, CA, Duluth, MN, and Manila, PI. As usual, songs from past �Upsilon Sigma Phi Cavalcades� and Sigma Delta Phi musicales in campuses at Diliman and Los Banos were sung by everyone who joined the Greek societies between 1941 and 1993. Several of the attendees are active in local U.P. alumni associations. The reunion was a celebration of their life-long friendships, in the same sentiment as the forthcoming �Hobo Dance� being hosted by members who joined these two �Greek societies� in 1956.

The hobo dance, traditionally held the night of U.P.�s Arbor Day celebration, was held at the home of Congressman Rene�56 and (Sis) Yaying Dragon in Forbes Park, Makati City, Philippines on Friday November 29, 1996. The fraternity is celebrating its 80th and the sorority its 65th Jubilee in 1998!
