Dear Fellow Alumni,
Greetings from Diliman and Kansas City!
Here is an opportunity to participate in a major gift for the University of
the Philippines as it heads for its Centennial in the year 2008.
Your generous participation will assure a sizable gift that will make a
difference for the University. It will allow the University to meet its
"Plan 2008" as it prepares for the next millennium.
Salamat po!
Sincerely yours,

Preparing For Change
The end of the twentieth century and the beginning of the next millenium is marked by the globalization of trade. The breakdown of national and cultural barriers promotes the acceptance of ideas of democracy, the role of markets, and the importance of the natural environment.
As the Philippines enters globalization, Filipinos need to learn new skills to stay competitive with the rest of the world. The goal of UP is to prepare students for this challenge. We want to produce students who are able to grow in a world without borders, yet remain connected to the nation and its traditions.
We're making a contribution to the nation
As the premier institution of higher learning, the UP has the obligation to raise academic standards. But the involvement goes beyond just the educational system.
The goal of the UP is to produce leaders who will spearhead the transformation from a nation beset by problems of poverty and inadequacy to a self-reliant and just society -- to create leaders of intellect and character.
The goal can be realized by following a Seven-Point Agenda that has been set up by the UP:
Should the Seven-Point Agenda be realized, UP will become an international focal point in this part of the world, while still maintaining its status as the national University of the Philippines. More importantly, our efforts will uplift the Filipino people, make the Philippines a contender in the globalization of trade, and prepare them for universal changes in the future. Part of making this a reality is by becoming a friend of the UP. Through your friendship and funding, you will have helped create leaders of intellect and character and your contribution will be felt across the world.
