AAI was my first choice after reviewing undergraduate programs in agriculture at Coimbatore, Bangalore, and Poona. It was the only one at the time that offered a true educational experience in modern agriculture without making one a villager in the process. Classmates and compatriots during my four years include the following:
M J Sam, C S Gupta, Kangiyam (Sri Lanka), Trevor Thorpe (Barbados), Anil Puri, Jamil Ahmed, Puran Singh, E B John, Balakrishnan (Malaysia), D S Gill (Malaysia), Joe Eapen (Malaysia), R B Shrestha (Nepal), J B Rana (Nepal) Victor Wilamaratne (Sri Lanka), Ashok Broome, Nandi Murch, Twe (Burma) and a host of others.
Faculty who taught me include Malviya (English), Sunil Roy (Soil Sci), O P Agarwala (Anim Sci), Jim Warner (Dairy tech), D Sundersan (Faculty Advisor-Forensic Club), A D Wycliffe (Ag Econ), Velu (Anim Sci), Gaurishanker (Hort), J C Edwards (Plant Path), A K Ghosh (Agron), B A David (Biol), Srivastava (Ag Chem), Solomon Singh and C V Paul (Ag Engg-who can forget the ridiculous lab on making a kurpi) and it is impossible to forget characters like Md Siddiqui, Mallick, S.S. Verma (always ready to assist a student), and the efficient library staff (Ms Thomas and Ms Qurashi) and V Rajamani (Allahabad University).
