| As students, it is important to establish a good understanding of why all nurses should be involved in their professional organizations. These organizations provide information regarding current political issues that effect nurses� delivery of care. It is important that membership becomes more of a priority for nurses because advocating for patient needs and professional autonomy is nearly impossible without the involvement and support of our own peers. With the increased cost cuts in healthcare, nurses are forced to show the value of the profession and prove that nursing care leads to positive health outcomes for their patients. I encourage any current or future nurse to explore their own feelings about what impact professional nursing organizations could make on healthcare with more political strength and peer involvement concerning current professional issues. As 2nd Vice President of this organization, I hope to ensure that our bylaws uphold this vision for the profession as we all come together to make the political voice of nurses stronger! |
