I.  President Laura Yoho called the 51st Annual Business Meeting of the Georgia Association of Nursing Students to order on October 9, 2003 at 4:00pm.  Laura Yoho welcomed all members, delegates, and visitors to the Convention.  Laura Yoho, President, introduced the 2002-2003 GANS State Board (head table)

     a.  Read by Gina Hulsey, Legislative Director and acting Second VP.

V.  Adoption of the Convention Program
     a.  The chair read the following changes to the Convention Program, to be included in the vote for the
           adoption of the Program.
           1.  Give page:  2  Change:  [email protected]
                 Community Service Director to [email protected]
           2.  Give page: 3  Change:  add #13, cell phone goes off in House of Delegates (HOD):  1st offense=$5,
                 2nd offense=$10, 3rd offense=asked to leave HOD; change exhibitor set up to 7:00-10:30am
           3.  Give page: 6  Change:  8:00-8:30pm NEC (Hamilton), Move down Decades Party to 8:30pm
           4.  Give page: 7  Change:  Focus session A @ 1:15pm-2, Deann Church Hobbs;  Focus Session C to
                 Matthew Kervin;  Focus session A 10:00am Saturday Pharmacology by Loretta Manning;  Focus

VI.  Approval of the 2002 House of Delegates at the Georgia Association of Nursing Students' 50th Annual Meeting
     a.  Minutes Review Committee and the GANS Executive Board approved the 2002 minutes.
     b.  Hearing no objections, the chair appointed the President, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, and the
          Retired Board Member to serve on the 2003-2004 Minutes Review Committee for the 51st Annual session.

VII.  Board Reports
     a.  Board Reports can be found on pages 19-22 of the Delegate booklets.

VIII.  Motions
     a.  I move that the Standing Rules of this convention, as read, by adopted.  Author:  Gina Hulsey.  Seconded:
          Cherie giles.  Action:  Carried
     b.  I move the adoption of the printed program, as corrected, be the order of business for this convention.
          Author:  jessica Hunt.  Second:  Gina Hulsey.  Action: Carried

IX.  Budget Proposal
     a.  Read by Noel Lawson, Treasurer, can be found on page 24 of the Delegate booklet.
     b.  To be voted upon during tomorrow's business meeting.

X.  ByLaws
     a.  Julie Thacker, Secretary reported that no ByLaw changes were submitted on time.
     b.  The ByLaws can be found after page 12 in the Delegate booklet.

XI.  Slate of Candidates
     a.  Traci Steinhauser, NEC Chair, read the Slate of Candidates.
     b.  Announced opening of Campaign Headquarters at 3:45pm in the Cummings Room on 10/10/03
     c.  Announced the rules of running from the floor and the deadlines, as found in the GANS Delegate Business
          Book
     d.  Candidates Running from the Floor
          1.  Nominated Jessica Hunt for the position of 1st VP
          2.  Lee Thomas-Smith (Floyd College) nominated Eric Gray of Floy College for the position of
               Legislation Director
          3.  Nina Arenas-Montoya (MCG Augusta) nominated Wendy Jackson from MCG Augusta for the position
               of 2nd Vice President
          4.  Lee Thomas-Smith (Floyd College) nominited Malisa Holmes from Floyd College for the position of
               NEC North
          5.  Positions still open -- nominations will remain open for all positions

XII.  Announcements
     a.  The GANS Executive Board and NEC would be grateful for non-delegate volunteers to serve as tellers for
          the elections.  Anyone who may be interested, please see NEC member, Traci Steinhauser, after this
          meeting.  Please note that to volunteer as a teller for the elections, you must be from a school that has no
          candidates running for office.
     b.  Delegates please take some time to review the Proposed Changes to the submitted resolutions before
          tomorrow's meeting.
     c.  The exhibit hall will be open tomorrow from 11:00-1:00pm and then from 2-3:45pm.  We will have a ribbon
          cutting ceremony at the grand opening at 10:55am.
     d.  School chapter sales tables will be available starting tomorrow AM at the registration table.  Tables will be
          assembled in the breezeway outside.  Table assignments are limited to first-come, first-serve availability
          and can be obtained at the Registration table for $15 per half table.
     e.  There will be a special "Dashing Out of the White" relay race Friday outside of the HOD room.  There will
          be a sign-up sheet consisting of teams of 5.  Anyone can participate, faculty included.  Please take a
          moment and sign up at the Registration Table for this fun event.
     f.  We are accepting items for the Silent Auction in the back of the HOD.  If you have any items, please see
         Elisha.  Final bids will be accepted on Saturday, October 11th at 7:00pm.  Items will be awarded following
         the Awards Ceremony.  Please be prepared to pay by check or the exact aount of cash as change will not
         be available.
     g.  In addition to the silent auction items, we are also accepting shoeboxes for the Samaritan's Purse.  Please
          see Elisha for more information on that.
     h.  The NCLEX Mini-Review by Loretta Manning will be held on both Friday and Saturday.  The cost of the
          2-hour review session is $25.
     i.  On Saturday, we are having a special guest speaker for a luncheon whose talk is entitled, "So You Made
         A Medication Error".  If you plan on attending this luncheon, the cost is $20, which includes lunch.  Please
         sign up at the registration table if you are interested.  There will be a yellow skicker on your badge.
     j.  The Blood Drive will be on Saturday, October 12th from 8:00am-1:00pm in the Hamilton Room.  Please
         make sure to sign up at the Registration Table for your donation time.  We will have an award for the
         school that has the greatest number of donators for the Blood Drive.
     k.  This year, we are having special admittance controls for the Awards Dinner on Saturday, October 11th. 
          You will be required to wear your official convention name badge and MUST have a blue dot on your
          badge to be admitted to the Awards Dinner.  If y ou do not present both of these requirements at the door,
          you will not be admitted.  Please check with the registration table to make sure you are properly registered.
          The dress for the Awards Ceremony is semi-formal, or the best possible.
     l.  Essays for "WHAT GANS MEANS TO ME" are due by 8:00pm Friday for the Hospital America Scholarship.
     m.  Donations taken up for the Karl Lipinski Scholarship.
     n.  Give school patches to Carolyn Hickox, GNA Consultant to be added to the AIDS Quilt
     o.  As a reminder, alcohol is prohibited at any GANS event according to the Standing Rules of this Convention
          (and NSNA)

XIII.  Recess
     a.  Reconvene for Opening Ceremonies at 6pm
