III.  Opening Announcements
A)
JH Recognition sent a letter to President Katie Orr regarding GANS lapel pens.  The pens are used for the board and sold at schools and convention.  Past Treasurer, Lisa Wilder, should have extra pens from the previous year.  She will be contacted before a decision is made to reorder.

B) President Katie Orr passed around a form sent to GANS from NSNA.  The form is called Council of State Presidents Sharing Accomplishments.  Katie asked each of the board members to complete the sections applicable to them.  She will present copies of it to other state presidents at Nationals.

C) The NEC South position is open.  The alternate board member is capable of filling this position because she if from the South District.  She will be contacted regarding the position.  Darton College contacted President Katie Orr expressing interest in this position.  Katie will keep them informed about the position opening or a position as Alternate Board Member.
IV.  NSNA Convention
President Katie Orr shared information with the board for 1st Vice President, Susie Goethe, since she was unable to attend the meeting.  The hotel has quoted the following costs for the Peach Pie Social:
     $200--for a room
     $100--for banquet set up
$11 for pie, ice cream, sweet tea, and drinks/per person

President Katie Orr suggested cutting costs by eliminating bottled water, ice cream and banquet set up.  Children's Healthcare of Atlanta will also be contacted about sponsoring the social since they will be at National's.  We would then invite them to the event so they could have extra exposure.  The proposed time is
Thursday, April 5, 2001 from 1200 to 1300.

EDD Mandy Parnacott is working on gathering enough bags of peanuts to pass out at convention.  She already has 1 case, which contains 300 bags of GA peanuts.  Her mother is trying to get 2 additional cases.  These may be passed out at the students activities hall.

President Katie Orr estimated that 100 people may attend the GA Caucus and Pizza Party.  Treasurer Yetta Ingram-Canty and 1st Vice President Susie Goethe will work together on a budget after Susie contacts the hotel regarding room and food information.
V.  GANS 2001 Convention
A motion was made by Aimee Baker to raise exhibitor fees for all packages by $100.  The motion was passed unanimously.  The new fees are as follows:
     Bronze--$700
     Silver--$900
     Gold---$1100
     Presenting---$2300

BTN Director Kelly Knox made a motion that the GANS convention remain separate from the GNA convention.  It was passed unanimously because of the GNA convention site location.  GANS is interested in finding an attractive site to encourage greater participation from the GA schools.
VI.  Remaining Meetings
The following dates were set for the remaining GANS meetings so the board can plan to attend:
April 5 at 0700 in Nashville, TN
May 19 at 1000 in Douglasville, GA at the Inner Harbour site
June 16 at 1000 in Macon, GA
July 14 at 1000 in Macon, GA
August 18 in Albany or Americus before the fall 2001 COSP meeting
September 15 at 1000 in Macon, GA
October at the GANS 2001 Convention "Surviving the Challenge"
VII.  Information from the Board
CS Director Carmen Simmons will set up the clothes drive at Inner Harbour for May 19, 2001.  School representatives should begin collecting clothes now.  After the clothes drive, the board will meet at GNA Consultant Carolyn Hickox's house for a picnic and meeting.

SDD Aimee Baker will serve as the chair for planning the fall COSP meeting in Albany, August 18, 2001.

Since WDD was unable to make the meeting, President Katie Orr presented Susan's suggestion.  Susan proposed that a District Director chair be elected within the board to coordinate activities.  This would allow for more direction and organization of tasks.  Instead of mini conventions within the districts, the COSP meetings would alternate between a southern location and a northern location.  Participation from the surrounding schools would be highly solicited.  All schools would be invited but the change of location makes attendance more likely.  This could be a possible bylaws change.

Susan is working with the planning committee for GNA 3rd District to plan  a meeting on May 11, 2001 from 0800 to 1700.  The program  is titled "Celebrating National Nurse's Week:  Nurses in Demand".  If available, she would like President Katie Orr to come speak.

Treasurer Yetta Ingram-Canty said the board has rooms reserved from Tuesday night April 3 to Saturday night April 7.  The rooms are booked under her name and confirmation numbers will be sent via email to board members.  Check in time is 1500 on Tuesday afternoon.

Also, the BTN has a separate account from the general GANS funds.  Due to the small amount of money in the account and the monthly fees, BTN will be joined under the general account.  A separate log of BTN incoming and outgoing funds will be kept in order to continue to use the appropriate funds.  Money earned from the Silent Auction should be deposited under the BTN branch to be used as scholarship money.  Yetta will also look into changing banks from Bank of America in order to decrease the monthly fees charged against the account.

Retired Board Member Cindy Kirkpatrick has the GANS board member's shirts.  She will bring them to National's.  The shirts are to be worn with solid colored pants, preferably khaki.

The license tag legislation has been set aside until next year.  Petitions will be sent out in the mean time to generate support.

She also requested that the board read the new Code and Proposed Bylaw Changes in the Imprint so everyone is familiar with them at convention.
VIII.  Guest Speaker
Nikki Battle, student at MCG in Augusta, attended the GANS meeting.  She came to introduce herself because she is running for BTN Director on the national level.  She spoke about her campaign theme and her preliminary goals.

XI. The meeting was dismissed by President Katie Orr at 1320.  The board will reconvene on April 5, 2001 at 0700 in Nashville, TN.
