| III. Minutes The November minutes were not available for review. President, Katie Orr, recommeded by both November and January minutes to be reviewed at the February meeting. |
| PRESIDENT: Katie had a letter sent tot he schools announcing the vanancy of the EKG and soliciting nominees for this position. Letters were also sent to GNA and GLN requesting financil support in order to assist with expenses to the NSNA Annual Convention in Nashville, TN. 1ST VICE PRESIDENT: Susie Goethe has sent out Thank You letters to the 2000 GANS Convention exhibitors. With the changes indicated with room minimums, the hotel contract has been signed with the Clarion Buccaneer Hotel on Jekyll Island. Susie is working on drafting letters to be sent to 2001 Convention Exhibitors. 2ND VICE PRESIDENT: Wilson Bernales prepared and posted flyers for the vacant EKG Editor's position. These flyers were posted at his school. Wilson is also reviewing the Resolutions recently passed at the 2000 Convention for submission on the national board. TREASURER: Yetta retrieved the checkbook from Lisa Wilder, 2000 GANS Treasurer. She has made arrangements with Lisa to meet to obtain the Treasurer's archieves. LEGISLATIVE DIRECTOR: Claudia Whitmore has been working on the GANS Policy & Procedure Manuel. She has received several copies of different state's P&P manuel to act as a template. She has also sent an email to Marcia Nobel at GN headquarters to get a copy of their P&P manual for review. Claudia is also planning on attending the GNA Legislation Reception on January 25, 2001 at the Sloppy Floyd Building in Atlanta, GA. COMMUNITY SERVICE DIRECTOR: Carmen Simmons has drafted a preliminary letter to be addressed to the Georgia schools outlining the different community service projects GANS works on. Due to scheduling conflicts with the Board, Carmen cancelled the schedule Ropes Course which had been scheduled for January 20th. This even was not rescheduled. Carmen also attended the Christmas gift wrapping at Inner harbour Hospital on December 20, 2000. BREAKTHROUGH TO NURSING DIRECTOR: Kelly Knox has contacted a Girl Scout leader in her area regarding the creation of a "Nursing Badge". She has drafted a preliminary letter to NW Georgia Girl Scout District. Claudia Whitmore volunteered as an additional contact as she is a Girl Scouts leader for her area. EKG EDITOR: A calendar with deadline dates for Board Members for the future EKG issues was passed out to all attending members. February 17, 2001 for April issue May 19, 2001 for July issue August 18, 2001 for October (convention) issue The January issue has been mailed to MEDS Publishing for individual mailing and the required 15 copies have been sent to NSNA. Advertising letters for future issues have been sent out to solicite additional advertisers. |
| 1-Members Alliance A Members Alliance has been created of busineesses who offer discounts to GANS members. Currently, there are 3 businesses (MEDS Publishing, NursingHand.com, & Nursing Decks) who offer discounts. In exchange, we have placed a free 1/2-page ad in the EKG. 2-GLN Conference Cindy Green, GLN Consultant, advised the Board of the upcoming GLN Conference on April 19-20, 2001 at Jekyll Island, Georgia. 3-COSP February 17, 2001 Kennesaw STate University 11:00-3:00pm Cindy Kirkpatrick was unavailable to update on the progress of COSP. With pohone conversations, Cindy Green stated that Cindy Kirkpatrick had obtained sponsorship of the luncheon and was working on additional sponorship for t-shirts. Cindy Green will contact Cindy Kirkpatrick for additional information. Susie Goethe will handle the invitation to be sent to the schools. The GANS Board Meeting will be from 9:00-11:00 with COSP immediately following. 4-2001 GANS Convention An open discussion was held regarding tenative plans regarding the 2001 GANS Convention in October at Jekyll Island, GA. Katie Orr stressed that we need to be sure to amke continous reminders to our members during convention regarding the alcohol policy and encourage members not to consume or possess alcohol during any GANS function. Susie Goethe discussed possible entertainment during the opening Night Party, Casnova Entertainment. The Board encouraged Susie to obtain more information, such as prices and contracts, regarding Casnova Entertainment. Convention committees were assigned and duties were discussed: Speakers/Focus Session: Claudia Whitmore (chair) Wilson Bernales Exhibitors: Susie Goethe (chair) Decorations Kelly Knox Bylaws: Hayley Foster Resolutions: Wilson Bernales (chair) Claudia Whitmore Awards (and ceremony) Susan Hunt-Barron (chair) Primorse Grier Mandy Parnacott Aimee Baker Opening Ceremonies: Carmen Simmons (Parade of Schools/decorations) Campaign Headquarters: Dallas Regan (chair) (all NEC) Susan Dusterieck Amy Kesler Trina Hennen Regristration: Yetta Ingram-Canty (to schedule workers) 5-Members Reimbursement Katie Orr encouraged Board Members to turn in all receipts for monthly reimbursements and any outstanding expenses for midYear travel expenses, which are not covered by student's school. 6-NSNA Annual Convention Katie Orr has sent letters to GNA and GLN requesting financial assistance to bring our GNA Consultant, Carolyn Hickox, and GLN Consultant, Cindy Green, to the NSNA Annual Convention in Nashville, TN, to help represent Georgia with the GANS Board. |
| MOTION: I, Susie Goethe, make a motion for GANS to send executive board members, excluding NEC, to the NSNA annual convention. This is to include paying for hotel and regstration fees. Seconded by Carmen Simmons Passed Unamisiously |
| Yetta will send a hotel registration for 3 quad rooms Yett will also send a completed convention registration form for each board member and consultant. Members who wish to attend the NCLEX review, will pay the difference directly to Yetta so she may send the full amount to NSNA. Susie and Yetta will contact NSNA regarding scheduling a Peach Social for Thursday, 2:30-3:45 on April 5th in Nashville. They will coordinate this event and schedule set-up times. All board members are expected to attend. This social will be to sponsor any candidates from Georgia running for National Office. Goody Bags will be made up for all candidates. These Goody Bags will include water/drinks/snacks. Susie Goethe will make up and distribute these bags to each Georgia candidate. Katie encouraged each Board Member to wear their GANS shirt during the Caucas. Katie will contact C. Kirkpatrick to check on our orders. The Georgia Caucas is scheduled for: Friday, April 6---1:30-2:30pm (pizza/drinks) Susie & Yetta will schedule and coordinate Susie will contact NSNA for possible rooms Friday, April 6---11:00-12:00pm Board members will meet at 10:30pm to review items |
| 7-Fundraising for Nationals An open discussion was held regarding fundraising possibilities at NSNA Annual Convention. We will contact Nursing Decks for possible fundraising opportunities at Nationals. |
| VI. Next Meeting The next meeting is scheduled for Saturday, February 17, 2001 at Kennesaw State University, Nursing Department, from 9:00-11:00am with COSP following from 11:00am-3:00pm. |
