1. The meeting started at8:45 a.m. and was presided by Pres. Gabby.
2. The fund custodians made a report on the financial status of the Foundation. As of 1 October 2002, the total amount in the Foundation's name is broken down as consisting of a Topsaver Account and a regular savings account.
3. As regards the proposed football scholarship of Fr. Lukas, Mario K. reported that he was able to discuss the matter with Fr. Lukas who suggested that the Foundation shoulder the "other fees" that each player/student will have to pay. The Board agreed to cover the "other fees" of two (2) players/students. This will be officially given to the school for this purpose.
4. With regard to the Malaybalay project, Mario K. likewise reported that Fr. Savio, is still in the U.S. It was also disclosed that the Choir for which the funding was originally intended has been disbanded and Fr. Ed Africa is not in Malaybalay anymore. It was therefore agreed that the US boys should be asked on whether or not to continue pursuing the proposed funding for the Malaybalay project and try to get in touch again with Fr. Savio. Mario will again be the lead person on this one.
5. Mario K. also reported the investing the fund in retail bonds does not give a higher rate of interest as interst rates are down for all types of bonds. Thus, after much deliberation on the matter the Board also agreed to allocate from the fund a sum to enable the Treasurer and Asst. Treasurer to buy U.S. $ to be deposited in a time deposit account in the depository bank.
6. Pres. gabby informed the group of the solicitation letter from the SBCAA for funds for the Alumni Office. AYA was tasked to draft a reply stating that we are constrained by our rules to use only the interest earnings from the fund and that we have already allocated the said amount for the football scholarship.
7 Bebet was tasked to secure from the Alumni office a copy of the SBC Alumni Directory so that the batch directory can be updated.
8. It was also agreed that the Christmas party be held on Wednesday, 4 dec. 2002 at Jessie Gonzales' place in New manila. Roy Abesamis was tasked to plan and coordinate with Jess. Attendees will be asked to bring food for the purpose (pot luck).
9. Batch 73 and the Alumni Ass. ar jointly holding a golf tournament on November 15 at Valley Golf. Andy suggested that our batch participate with one flight (4 members) to be sponsored by SMC (Ira) and the Foundation sponsor four (4) other batchmates willing to play at P6T (P1500 each). It was thus agreed that the Foundation pay for the four willing batchmates who will be playing. It was also suggested that we sponsor a golf tournament early next year to raise funds for our projects. Andy and Alex were tasked to make plans.
10. Finally, AYA raised the issue of the need to amend the composition of the Board. It was agreed that the members of the Board will be limited to eleven (11) and will be elected at random (no class distinction) so that those willing to actively serveand participate can do so. The election will be held during the Christmas party. AYA was tasked to take care of the mandments of the articles and by-laws to reflect the changes.
!!. Finally, the next meeting of the board is set on 15 January 2003 at the same time and venue. The Board thanked the host, Ira, anew for the venue and the breakfast.
SBCHS75 attendees were Bubut, Joseph, JoPad, Sonny A., Sonny V., Dr. Euge, Al A., Jocel, who flew in from S.F., and of course Brown D. Better halves present were Menchie, Zelda, Belen, Darlene and Gigi. HS'81's Raj Dialani donated a large amount of prizes including scooters, boom boxes, camera, bicycle, etc. He also gave away fan coolers for the kids. Unfortunately, no one from HS'75 won major prizes, although Bubut did win a ladies bracelet.
Food was abundant, with 2 lechons donated. After the picnic, we proceeded to Da Patio in La Mirada, where the leftover lechon was cooked into paksiw by Menchie, while Belen prepared a shrimp dish. It then turned into a Poker night, with the tong pot making the big winning for our X'mas party fund raiser!

After deliberation on whether the Fund should be a perpetual fund or to disburse the same totally for purposes to be agreed upon, the Board decided to treat the same as a perpetual fund. Disbursements will be made for worthy projects to be decided by the Board. It will be replenished from proceeds from future fund raising activities. In the meantime, Mario K. was directed by the Board to look for ways to maximize the returns/interests that can be generated from the Fund.
On the matter of requests from batchmates who may be in need of financial assistance, the Board agreed that the fund will not be used for the purpose due to the fact that the priority of the requests will be hard to determine and may in fact lead to a misinterpretation of whatever decision the Board may take in such cases. Thus, it was agreed and resolved that when requests for financial assistance are received, the Board and the members shall provide whatever amount is raised on a voluntary basis (pass the hat).
It was also agreed that the principal amount of the Fund will not be touched. Only the interests generated from it will be used to support the projects approved by the Board.
As regards the worthy projects to be supported by the Fund, the Board agreed and resolved to support the football scholarship program of Fr. Lukes. For the purpose, the Board appropriated a maximum of P50,000.00 for the said football scholarship for the schoolyear which amount is sufficient to pay the miscellaneous expenses for three (3) players (Fr. Lukes had quoted P16T per player). Mario K. will coordinate with Fr. Lukes on the matter to effect the funding for the football scholarship.
The Board also agreed and resolved to donate a certain amount from the fund to the Malaybalay cause. Mario K. will likewise contact the Benedictine priests for the purpose and get back to the Board on how this will be implemented.
In reply to the Board's decision, Fr. Lukas sends this note:

Check out Anne's Shower page to get a glimpse of the party for Ronan - that's the baby's name! And here is a glimpse of how he may look like with daddy's features!
Sonny & Zelda Alejandre were missed (they were visiting an ailing aunt in St. Louis, MO) and Doc Euge de Guia who was busy doing his rounds.
As always, food was abundant :Shrimp, Pork chops, Chiken wings, Sausage, Ginisang mongo, dinuguan (cooked by JoLu), sisig, lumpiang shanghai, pansit guisado, lechon kawali (Mon O's specialty), fresh tossed salad, desserts from Leah (turon na saging & pudding), coffee cake from Bunny (bagay na bagay sa kapeng barako), deep fried fish, and a huge birthday cake for all the July birthday celebrants from Geo.
Red, who is a Christian minister has been staying with his family in West Covina for the past month. He will be going to South Dakota to continue his studies. He blessed the food and the event with a simple prayer.
Wally just came from a reunion with the Northern California SBCHS75'rs where they held a dinner for the newly weds Jim & Nanette Carreon last July 10th. JoLu & Wally drove over 6 hours from San Jose to Los Angeles. Wally is on his way to Costa Rica on a job related trip. He currently resides in Texas.
The evening was marked by the usual sharing of recent and not so recent stories, told over a glass of wine, ice cold San Mig beer or soda. The weather was pleasant, a respite from the summer heat wave. While some left early at around 11 pm, most stayed untill 3 am playing black jack and mahjong or just enjoying the cool & starlit summer night at Da Basement's deck.
Chalk up another wonderful evening at Da Basement, with good friends & their family sharing great food, drinks and fellowship!
Next event - July 27th 2002 at The Lion's Den in Chatsworth, California (Joseph Yu's place) for the baby shower party in anticipation of Anne & Butch Corcino's bundle of joy!

Last night was a very memorable evening for those who were gathered
at Johann's Goldilocks party room. The food was great. The company
was up to par with Bedan standards. The special guest was beaming
throughout the evening, generating warmth from within all of us in
contrast to the pea soup fog and cold wind outside the building.
Those who showed up in the den of lions included the following:
Louie Braceros (74), Jun Urbano (75), Bunny Gayon (75), Ed Corpus
(75), Gilbert Cruz (75), Johann Yuzon (75), Joji Pulido (75), Jojo
Lucero (75), Wally Buhay (75), Boni Hilario (76), Ephraim Jose (76),
Eugene Navarrete (76), Levi Baranda (76), Eric Corpus (76), Johann
Canilao (77), Ric Aure (77), Rudy Roque (77), Ramy Abad (78), Anna
Improgo, Jette Jose, Nanetter Ruhter and yours truly.
What is there to tell? Aside from the usual "you look familiar,
pare" and "hulaan mo kung sino ako" to the more mundane "pare, mukha
yata nag gain ka ng kaunti" and the "ma'am, you don't look a day over
sixty." Joji showed us an original TSAKIT2 shirt which was pretty
impressive because it survived all these years. Eyeballing the
shirt, though, made me wonder if it was washed a little too long in
hot water or did he really fit that shirt in high school?
Nanette was the reason most of us were there. She had the glowing
look of a newly wed and Jim, her other half, was soaking up the
atmosphere, not to mention the food, like a sponge. Everyone else
had a story to tell, not just about Nanette, but also about Annie and
Jette and the others, present or absent. Groups were huddled
together, scattered throughout the room. Heads were thrown back in
laughter as the memories were pulled from the distant recesses of the
mind, flooding the room with good will and love.
Ephraim, or Eddie Boy as we know him, came up to me and asked me if I
was married and what number wife I was working on. At first I was
taken aback not knowing if he was serious. An answer stammered out
of my mouth that I was still married to my first wife. I then
inquired why he asked that question, of all questions. Without
skipping a beat, he turned his head and gestured at some of the
Bedans in one corner and said, "See them over there? They're
upgrading." That just about floored me!
It was that kind of atmosphere that permeated the room... relaxed but
not fancy free. The batch boundaries didn't exist for we were all
Bedans touched by Nanette and Annie and Jette during our formative
years of life leaving a lasting impression which we will probably
carry to our graves.
The party ended not before Nanette was presented with some token
gifts. She gave us a very gracious compliment when she told her
family that she had to make time to see her boys after all these
years. She also mentioned that she teaches at the International
School in Taipei, Taiwan teaching high school kids, just like us when
we had her as our teacher. She is still touching lives like she
touched ours. She never forgets to mention to her present students
about us who she taught and guided over twenty-five years ago. Come
to think of it, does she tell her students this to impress upon them
her prodiguous amount of teaching experience or is she telling
them "I still look good after all these years!" Either way, both are
true! Jun Urbano's comment holds true for Annie and Jette and
Nanette... not a day over sixty! Truthfully, though, not a day over
thirty! Thanks to us, their fountain of youth!
Hugs and kisses all around at the end of the evening. No one wanted
it to end. It was nice to see Wally this neck of the woods. I
wonder if he was still trying to get Jojo's malabanos na mga binti
unwrapped from who knows where? Thank you to Gilbert who chauffered
the Ruhters. Thank you to all those who showed up from near and
far. Thank you to the spouses who accompanied their other halves.
It gave the gathering a more familial presence.
From the warm, almost stuffy, atmosphere inside Goldilocks to the
windy, damp fog of a typical summer's night in Daly City, we made a
bee line to our cars. Waving our hands good-bye to each other, I
couldn't help thinking, maybe, just maybe, we could do this again
someday just to experience the Bedan spirit once more.
It was a blast from the past!

...here is an excerpt from an e-mail from our beloved Mrs. Nanette (Carreon) Ruther:
To all of you, my sons, take care and learn to enjoy your lives...your family
first and friends..and stay connected to your faith. By now you all have
seen how many twists and turns have made us what we are . I hope you are
happy with who you have become . I am very happy with my life. You have all
been part of my joy!
Love,
MOM Nanette
We had a blast in Vegas. Thanks in most part to Butch
Halog's hospitality. Butch, thank you for the van to
shuttle batchmates around. Thanks for the delicious
dinner treat on Friday night (did'nt realize, lobsters
and talaba tastes good together, saan bang lugar yung
pinagdalhan mo sa amin?). Thank you for making
yourself always available to drive us around. Most
importantly, thank you for your time. We know you took
off from work to be with us. A true Bedan and a
gentleman you are. We owe you so much.
Newly found batchmates who attended were Ding Q. and
Danny J. with their lovely spouses. Not much changed
with these two through the years. Hope Caes will have
pictures soon. Wala akong dalang kamera.
Norman's wife, Marie and his 2 children were there.
Although, we saw them only in the hospitality room
Friday. Norman told me she purposely stayed away to
give him more time to reminisce with us. WallyBu, hope
you finalize your deal to move in LA. You know you are
welcome here. Danny L., thanks for hurrying back from
Arizona to be with us during the ball. Puyat ka pa
from the night before reminiscing with us under the
stars tapos maaga ka pa pumasok the following day.
Bilib na ko talaga sa iyo kahit wala kang kibo sa
email. Jolu, what can I say, always the life of the
party. Never a boring moment with you around. Hope you
stay healthy and wealthy. To Fred, sure glad to see
you again. On our way to Vegas, Raffy and I were in
agreement that we will surely see you because Tarsi
will be there. True enough, you were there and stayed
with us during the wee hours in the morning of the
ball. Watchout Fred, we might just take you on your
approval to party in your house.
Thank you to the SBCAASC for the successful reunion.
Sikat na sikat ang mga officers, sayang Seph, you were
not there to savor the success.
To all SBCHS75 Socalers, thanks for a wonderful time.
Sayang yung mga hindi nakapunta you missed a truly
grand reunion. More kwentos in our next get together.
Last but not the least, thanks to the wives for their
understanding and support. Thanks for putting us
forward (even just for that weekend). Thanks for
knowing when to keep your distance, afterall, Vegas is
just 5 hours away while Vegas with classmates and
Bedans is 3,4,5 who knows how many years away...
Thank you , Thank you, thank you!!!!!

from Vic Zamora, SBCAASC Advisor, on SBCHS75's Las Vegas Reunion participation:
Sonny V.,
Your group had a wonderful time and they were the noisiest, of course! But I am
very thankful to you, even if you did not go, because you are instrumental in
getting them to go. I would like you to know that I feel indebted to your group
but as most of them have said to me personally, the reunion was worth the time,
effort and money because they had an opportunity to see each other again
specially those from other states and also the other batches and years.
Pax,
Vic
We also celebrated Father's Day a night earlier for those Dads in us. Funny though that some kids were left at home or not interested...
And of course, we celebrated L.A. Lakers Day !!! It was a 3-peat win for our home team.
May 18 - It was another rousing success for the crass of SBCHS75-So.Carr. In an atmosphere that rivars an episode in Iron Chef, cerebrants Joseph Yu was cooking tempura, whire Mae Cendana prepared the sushi, and our Magic Chef Butch G. commandeered the Hibachi grirr as he cooked the Teriyaki steak and chicken.
Iron Chefs Josephsan and Maesan take a break.
Gerogesan holds the cake for May cerebrants Butchsan, Josephsan, Maesan, and Jimsan, as Karaoke bar emcee JoPadsan looks on.
