I can't remember exactly when I met Monica, but I believe it was in eighth grade. I had her for Mrs. Washburn's English class and she would always turn around to talk to a friend, who sat behind me. We started chatting eventually and before I knew it, she had invited me to her quincenera. From that moment on, we were almost inseperable. The one thing I vividly remember is her HUGE crush on a guy named Manny, who was her math tutor.
Even though we have always been close, it was our senior year that I spent the most time with her. We were co-editors of the sports section for the yearbook. What an experience!! "Taking a Dunk!" It was in the class, while we were procrastinating like crazy, that we had our deepest conversations. They were mostly about the guys we would meet online..oh Drew, Evan, and all the others--what memories! Thinking back on those days, I always manage to at least crack a smile.
In fact, Monica is always finding new ways of making me laugh. I'll never forget Grad Nite. She was very secretive of what she was going to be wearing and that night I found out why. She had found an outfit that was VERY similiar to what I was going to be wearing--same exact print! I was horrified at first, but I soon excepted it and now thinking back, I loved it! She is the only person I know who would do something like that and she is the only person I know who would name her dog after her favorite comedian, Ellen DeGeneres. {Who's that puppy running up the hill?! It's Ellen! It's Ellen!!}
And the fact that we go to different colleges, have different aspirations, doesn't mean that we have lost each other. In fact, I think our friendship is even stronger and there is no way in Hell, I'm ever going to let her abandon it, just as she would do the same for me. She is the sister I never had and her parents are my adoptive parents. Monica is the sweetest, most kind person I know and for that I am so thankful. I love ya Passion Honey Dew!
Ever since I've known Monica, she has always wanted to be a chef. About a year and a half ago, she enrolled at Mesa College here in San Diego and has begun culinary classes. Last June, she began working at the Hanalei Hotel which is on the edge of Hotel Circle in Mission Valley. She operates the Poo-Poo Bar where she can make you muy delicioso chicken quesadillas and shrimp cocktails among other things. I'm so proud of her and doesn't she look adorable in her uniform?!!!
