The 1999 Joint Leadership Fall Conference!
Birmingham, Alabama
The 1999 Fall Leadership Conference which was held in Birmingham Alabama this past weekend was a great success Thanks to all how attended!! This year was the first year that there were 7 different organizations under one roof! the seven were:
1. DECA
2. FBLA: Future Business Leaders of America
3. FCCLA: Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (Formerly FHA-HERO)
4. FFA: Future Farmers of America
5. HOSA: Health Occupations Student of America
6. SkillsUSA-VICA: Formerly known as VICA
7. TSA: Technology Students Association
All of these clubs are what known as VSO: Vocational Student Organization! Everyone that either attended or was a State Officer did a great job!! The Key speaker at the Conference was Patty Hendrickson! Ms. Henrickson is from Holem Wisconsin. her job is speaking and shes great at what she does! She is also very nice and we at SkillsUSA-VICA enjoyed working with Patty and hope that we have another oppertunity to do so before our term is up. We had over 2,000 students at attendence! The Gerenal flow of the conference followed as this:
Friday: 8:30 to 10:30 PM was a Hypnotist session.
Saturday: 8:00 AM was registration.
9:15-10:15 Opening Session
10:30-11:30 Workshop one
11:30-1:00 PM Lunch
1:00-1:45 Workshop two
2:00-2:45 Workshop three
3:00-3:45 Section Meetings with VSOs
4:00-4:30 Closing Session
All of the State Officers had to attend a practice in which we learned what to do for both Opening and Closing Session which ran on Friday at 3:30 to about 5 or 5:30. It was very interesting! Me and some of the other State Officers got lost trying to find the practice meeting area because of how big the Jefferson County Civic Center!! and it was not fun!! SkillsUSA-VICA had a board meeting from 10 AM to about 1:30 on Friday to discuss what is going to happen in the next few months!! Mr. Randy Swann discussed the Signiture program to us and we need your help as well!! What you need to do is either call Mr. Swann up at 334-242-9112 or call any of the State Officers and ask us about it or your Advisor!! We need 5,000 signuters by next year! We feel Confident about it and We know we can overcome any obsticles if we put our minds to it!! SkillsUSA-VICA had to do Parliamentarain Procedures!! We had alot of fun doing it!! We at SkillsUSA-VICA State Officer team would like to Thank everyone for comming and making this a huge sucess and we would like to also Thank Patty Hendrickson for her interest in Alabamas VSO and for her motavaided speech she made!! Hopefully I spelled it right!! THANK YOU ALABAMA!!!!
