I am working at Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC), in the
Real Property Geomatics Services (RPGs) section of Real Estates Services
(RPS) for the RPS for Indian and Northern Affairs Canada/Nunavut Client
Service Unit in Ottawa. I have been in the position for just about two
years, and in that time I have done various different types of thing. At
the moment I am doing some application development in Visual Basic using
MapX and Access to create an interface to analysis and manage the Water and
Wastewater Treatment Plants on First Nation Lands across Canada. It's been
a pretty exciting project, requiring me to create a data input form to be
delivered to multiple people across the country, create the interactive map
to be used within the application, as well as learn how to program MapX to
program the front end. Beyond the current project, I have been required to
do various tasks, everything from simple map creation to database
management. A very interesting job, with lots of variety, so no complaints
from me.
As well I am know working with some of our old classmates. Julie Fugere and
Janice Unger, as well as many people from graduating classes both before and
after us, it is really good to see the Algonquin program getting lots of
recognition.
I hope everyone has a good holiday season, and that life is treating the
well.
