Working for the government has been a trying experience. However things have started to look up of late. A competent and enthusiastic manager has been put in charge of the database here at my branch of Industry Canada and she has put mapping as one of her top priorities. As well, after 8 months on order, my internet mapping software has finally arrived. Looks like my days wasting away in a 10x10 cubicle are over!
My contract was renewed again at Industry Canada until the end of November and I've also got another part-time job coming up in August. I was asked by Elmer to teach the MapInfo course for the night class this term and I quickly jumped at the opportunity. I hope these students treat me better than we treated our part-time lecturers!
While everything seems to be working out alright, I'm having a hard time adjusting to the working environment. I miss the variety of the student's lifestyle. Skipping classes was a lot easier to justify than skipping a day at work! With the summer upon us I am glad I don't have a window in my cubicle to see the beautiful weather I'm missing. Ah well, only 32 more years until I can retire. I'm sure I'll get used to the 9 to 5 routine before then. I hope.
