News
Since Sept. of 2000 I've been working for Elections Canada. For the first 8 months (Sept. 2000 to April 2001) I was working on assignment @ Statistics Canada in Tunney's Pasture. Elections & Stats work together on joint projects so some 'lucky' Elections personnel (like myself) were sent over to work @ Stats but remained on the Elections payroll. While @ Stats I was working on a project called "DIP" (the "..STICK" part we added later. :) It actually stood for "Data Integration Process" & involved getting streets & address info from sources like Telus, GeoComm & Land Information Offices, etc. Then we integrated their data with ours (hence the "DIP" name) and filled in the holes.
After 8 months of that I was called back to Elections in May, 2001. Since then I've been working here on Slater St. doing stuff like adding/editing streets & adding/updating addresses across Canada & editing polling division boundaries. We use custom software called Street Editor & Boundary Editor that are both UNIX based... luckily I was blessed 2 have sipped from Keith Metcalfe's fountain of knowledge & know about as much UNIX as a large urinal can teach. ;)
Beginning Feb. 25th though, I'll be starting a new job here @ Elections. It's a Geography Specialist position where I'm sent 2 a province as a member of a commission. The job is to help decide where 2 put the boundaries for the Federal Electoral Districts (ridings). After StatsCan does its census (as in 2001) the ridings for each province are readjusted due to population shifts or Nunavut territories popping up.. :) Somehow I managed 2 win one of these spots and am currently assigned the province of Manitoba. That means I'd be shipped off to sunny & exotic Winnipeg sometime in April/May after I get my training.
So that's work, in other news I took off 2 Australia for a month in Oct./Nov. and had a bloody excellent time! I climbed Sydney Harbour Bridge and Ayer's Rock (big red rock in the middle of the outback). I also moved yet again when I came back here. Moving was something of a hobby for me in 2001, I moved a grand total of 5 times. Of course having your apartment bldg burn down tends 2 influence your decision on whether or not 2 move! :) Now that I'm @ my current place & plan 2 stay longer than 2 months, I think it's safe 2 pass U my contact info.. so here ya go:

BridgeTop.jpg shows me at the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge with the Sydney Opera House @ bottom right.
Opera House.jpg shows me on the bridge again with the Sydney Opera House in the background. It was a little windy up there as U can see.. :)
Stairs.jpg shows me about to climb a section of stairs on the bridge.
SydneySky.jpg is my favourite of the 4 as it shows me on the bridge with the Sydney Harbour to the left with a number of ferries going to & fro, the Sydney skyline is directly behind me and the traffic on the bridge is to the right. Going from left to right the Sydney Harbour Bridge has a pedestrian walkway, 2 former tram lines now converted to express lanes, 6 car lanes, 2 train lines and a bicycle pathway on the far right.
