My Purpose for My Native American Pages
American history has been written and biasly rewritten and diluted to where we as the younger generation have no idea what our ancestors have gone through. In my middle school textbooks, the African slaves were "docile" and the Native Americans were merely "in the way of progress." This infuriated my mother when she saw my text mentioning this and gave me books showing the "real" truth about American history in regards to African slaves and Native Americans. This got me very interested in researching the truth.
So what motivated me to make my Native American pages? Well, for one thing, my personal attachment to the subject. As you already know I'm a quarter Blackfoot Indian and in my research, the Blackfoot were a force to be reckoned with in their "hay day" in the Great Plains. That is something to be proud about. Another thing that hit home was the fact that not many people (especially people of "color") know about the history involving "Black Indians." As a matter of fact, while I was talking to some of my friends on AOL and they ask me what I was doing, they gave comments like "umm, ok" when I would tell them that I was researching information on "Black Indians." I thought to myself while I was developing this webpage that I should not only talk about things that I do as a person but educate my viewers as well. Why not? I stumbled upon the subject on Black Indians through books like "Black Indians" by William Loren Katz and "Topaz" by Beverly Jenkins, and websites like Nzingha's Nation.
I'm always developing my website because I'm always researching. So there will be more information on Native American Cultures, Black Indians, Buffalo Soldiers, and other things, so keep coming back.
